| Hepatic fibrosis is the inevitable mediate stage and a common pathological process of varied chronic liver disease to cirrhosis. Since there isn't any effective method to cure the diseases leading to hepatic fibrosis till now, so prevent and delay the development of hepatic fibrosis is very important strategy. In our country, the main three factors leading to fibrosis are virus hepatitis, ethanol, and schistosomiasis. According to the serum epidemiology survey on virus hepatitis in whole country in 1992, the Positive rate of HBsAg is 9.75%, approximate 1 billion 2 thousand people, in which there are nearly 3 thousand hepatitis patients, most of them have developed to hepatic fibrosis . So the hepatic fibrosis is a kind of common disease which is severely impairing the health of Chinese people; an effective therapy for hepatic fibrosis is very necessary and exigent.Hepatic fibrosis is a dynamic state between matrix production and degradation ,and result in excessive deposition of extra cellular matrix components especially type â… ,â…¢ IV collagen . The pathological characteristic is hyperplasia and sedimentation of fibrous tissue in portal area and hepatic lobules. But the interlobular septum doesn't form. If the pseudolobuli have formed, septum has appeared in the central veins area and portal area, and the normal morph of liver has been demolished, the disease has developed from the phase of hepatic fibrosis to the phase of cirrhosis. Notwithstanding there doesn't have the name of hepatic fibrosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine .the comment can be seen in the articles of the correlative diseases, such as jaundice, abdominal mass, carbuncleon hypochondrium, and so on? The stagnation of the Qi and blood is the reason in etiology and pathology. In other words the main changes of hepatic fibrosis in etiology and pathology are stagnation of blood due to the retention of evil, deficiency of Qi and blood and the deficiency of liver.Till now, the study on the mechanism of the hepatic fibrosis has been developed very much. The factors causing the hepatic fibrosis (e.g. virus alcohol ,parasite ,copper and iron ect.) can activate the hepatic stellate cells, the activation of HSCs may result in their spontaneous proliferation with a strong fibrogenic activity, hyperplasis and abnormal deposition of extrim cellular matrix are the main pathogenesis. So the hepatic stellate cells play an important role in the development of the hepatic fibrosis, until the normal morph of the liver has been demolished, the disease will developed from the phase of hepatic fibrosis to the phase of cirrhosis. A prevalent opinion is that hepatic fibrosis is a reversible disease and the development to worse way can be reversed by positive treatment, but the cirrhosis usually is thought unreversed. As the development of the theory of the mechanisms on etiology and pathogenesis, the basis of theory of the preventive and treatment on hepatic fibrosis is provided.About treatment, there is no effective special medicine for it, but good effect has been achieved in prevention and treatment of hepatic fibrosis using Chinese herbs. The Chinese compound prescription Herbs AHF-1 in this study include dan-shen root, zedoary, Chinese angelica and terrapin armour etc.They can activate the blood circulation to eliminate blood stasis, eliminate inflammation and swelling, remove dampnes through diuresis and increase immune functions. The former clinical study has show a good effect by AHF-1 , so the AHF-1 is a promise Chinese compound prescription herbs. In our this research we make rat models of hepatic fibrosis using CCl4 to study the curative effect of the Chinese herbs of refreshing blood and eliminating stasis AHF-1 and molecular mechanisms to provide a theory proof, we also identify the genes expression related hepatic fibrosis using fluorescent differential display (Fluoro DD).
