| Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of common microvascular complication of diabetes. There is special advantage in preventing and treating DN by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The tutor developed the compound preparation of TCM to treat DN, which is Maidishen-shenxiao Capsule through summing up and researching himself 40 years clinic experience and our predecessors' experience.The thesis includes two parts of theoretical and experimental studies. In the part of theoretical studies: Firstly, the author reviews and sorts out the exposition of wasting-thirst disease, complications of wasting-thirst disease as well as DN in ancient documents. Secondly, the author summarizes the study progress of preventing and treating DN by TCM in recent years, and knowledge of western medicine on mechanism and treatment of DN. On the base of these, the author explains in depth main academic thoughts of tutor on treatment of DN, and analyses in depth the formulae and medicine of Maidishen-shenxiao Capsule. In the part of experimental studies: We successfully reconstructed DN animal model by the way that we fed them for 4 weeks after diabetic rat models were induced by large dosage intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin(STZ) only once. We have testified pharmacody effect of this capsule by the experiment about pesticide effect, and studied its possible functional mechanism.The results show: (1) High, middle and low dosage of this capsule all can reduce blood sugar of DN rats, and effect of high dosage which is similar to western medicine is best among them.
