Object i ve To study relationship of serum matrix metalloproteinase-9,transforming growth factor-β1, typeⅣcollagen concentrations and urine albumin excretion rate in patients with diabetic nephropathy. Methods 57 cases with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into three groups according to urine albumin excretion rate:A group(normoalbuminuria),B group(microalbuminuria) and C group(macroalbuminuria). Serum MMP-2,TGF-β1 and Cw level were measured in all cases. Results Serum MMP-2 in A,B and C groups were apparently lower than normal control(NC) group(P<0.001);Serum TGF-β1 in A,B and C groups were higher than NC group(P<0.001) and C group higher than A group(P<0.001);Serum typeⅣcollagen inB, C groups was higher than other two groups(P<0.001),C group higher than B group(P<0.01). Conclusion lower serum MMP-2 and higher TGF-β1 may play an important role in the development of diabetic nephropathy in T2DM.
