ObjectiveTo explore the special features of aspirin-induced asthma(AIA).Materials and methodsSixty AIA patients completed the questionnaire and received skin test, pulmonaryfunction test, roentgenoscopy of nasal sinuses and specific IgE(sIgE) titration. The results were analysed in order to expound the clinical characters of AIA.Results81.7% of the 60 AIA patients were ranked as middle to serious cases. The drugsinduced AIA were cyclo-oxygenase(COX) inhibitors with high ratios of COX2/COX1(IC50). About 46.7% of the patients complicated with nasal polyp, and 81.7% with nasal sinusitis. The results of skin test in 56 patients were negative.Conclusion1. AIA is an important type of asthma. Most of AIA patients are clinically middle toserious cases and are often associated with nasal sinusitis and nasal polyp.2. The drugs induced AIA are COX inhibitors which have high ratios of COX2/COX1(IC50).3. Recurrence of AIA may shorten the incubation period. Well-understanding of the drugs and compound drugs linked to AIA may prevent the recurrence of AIA.4. Antileukotrienes may improve the pulmonary function and decrease the airflow obstruction of AIA patients as a potential therapeutic alternative.
