| Traumatic brain edema (TBE) is very complicated, which involves lots of factors. These factors can be divided chronologically. Among these, neurogenic mechanism is put forward recently and is assumed to play a leading role. The present study deals mainly with the role of excitation of sympathetic nerve and posterior hypothalamus in TBE, and also with the changes of cerebral oxygen metabolism in patients with severe head injury. Three parts are included here.Part â… is an experiment of cutting or stimulation of cervical sympathetic nerve companied with brain injury. Forty adult rabbits were used to investigate the effects of different treatment of sympathetic nerve on traumatic brain edema. Results: (1)Cutting or stimulating the nerve caused an increase in cerebral water, EB, Na++ and Ca++ contents, which were significantly higher than those of the control group (p<0.01 or p<0.05). (2) Cutting plus stimulating the nerve's upper end led to a decrease of cerebral water, EB, Na++... |
