Purposes Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is a series of cellular events that include dedifferentiated cell formation, migration, adhesion, and proliferation, followed by membrane formation and contraction along surfaces of the detached retina resulting in failure of surgical retinal reattachment. PVR is an excessively wound healing which exits imbalance between cellular proliferation and death. Retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells are importantly proliferative cells in PVR. Proinflammatory factors have been known to play major roles in the pathogenesis of proliferative vitreoretinal disorders. This study consists of two parts : (1) To identify the cellular components , observe whether apoptosis was involved, and whether there was an association with expressions of Fas, FasL and apoptosis. (2) To observe the effects on growth and proliferation of cultured human RPE cells and changes of Fas,...
