Objective:To investigate the effect of Cordyceps sinensis(CS) on the hepatic insulin degrading enzyme(IDE) activity and the pancreatic islet B cells of experimental hepatic fibrosis rats at the third and the sixth week. Methods: Rats were randomly allocated into a normal group, a model group and a CS group. The latter two groups were administered with CCl4 solution to induce hepatic fibrosis. The CS group was also treated with CS 10 days after the beginning of CCl4 administration. Rats in normal group were sacrificed at the beginning of the experiment. While other two groups were sacrificed randomly at the end of the third, the sixth week.Isolated rat islets were cultured in vitro and radioimmunological assay were used to determine the level of the basal insulin releasing from the islets, the level of the serum insulin and the activity of the hepatic IDE. Results: No significant change can be seen in the level of the serum INS,the activity of the hepatic IDE and the level of the basal insulin releasing from the islets between the model group at the third week and the normal group (P>0.05).But the level of the serum INS and the level of the basal insulin releasing from the islets in the model group at the sixth week was higher than those in the normal group (P<0.05). And the activity of the hepatic IDE in the model group at the sixth week was lower than that in the normal group (P<0.05). No significant change can be seen in the level of the serum INS and the activity of the hepatic IDE between the CS group and the model group at the third andthe sixth week (P>0.05). But the levels of the basal insulin releasing from the islets in the CS group were apparently higher than those in the model group at the third and the sixth week(P<0.001,P<0.01).Conclusions: (1)The activity of the hepatic IDE decreased in the hepatic fibrosis rats. And the level of serum insulin raised because of the lower insulin degrading. So the excretion of the pancreatic islet B cells raised for the insulin resistance.(2)Cordyceps sinensis had no influences on the activity of the hepatic IDE of the CCL4 induced hepatic fibrosis rats at the third and the sixth week. But it could increase the level of the basal insulin releasing from the islets .
