The coronary heart disease (CHD) is the main suffering harming the mankind healthiness. Though the incidence rate of CHD in our country is lower than the west developed country, in most part of our country, particularly the north or relatively developed area, this illness tends to be more and more and is becoming the main cause of death. Therefore, how to prevent and cure of CHD is also the focus of the medical research. Since the 10 years, with the development of percutaneous coronary intervention and reconstructive vascular operation, the medical level has been increased and the mortality decreased. In the same time, the medical cost has been raised greatly. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has many advantages in treatment of CHD. Many patients are treated by it or combination of TCM and western medicine and get benefit from it.Angina pectoris belongs to "Chest Bi" in the TCM. Its Pathogenesis is deficient substance but excessive appearance. The cause of deficient substance is old age, feeble body, excessive tiredness, poor appetite after long sick and so on. The Qi deficiency and Yang deficiency are common. The reason of excessive appearance is that the cold evil invading heart, excessive sentiment, too heavy food and so on. The well condition of chest is disturbed and the vessel of heart is blocked up, and resulting in stagnation of Qi and blood, phlegm-muddiness and cold coagulating. Due to appeartance and substance all being in disorder, deficiency mixed with excessiveness, it shoud be given consideration to both two of them when being treated. The basic pathogenesis is Qi-deficiency and stagnation of blood. Qi-deficiency leads to stagnant blood and phlegm-muddiness that hindering in the vessel. The latter can also aggravte the Qi-deficiency and the vicious cycle occurs. Therefore, reinforcement and unobstruction can benefit from each other. Supplement Qi and activat blood is the basic method to treat CHD. HuangQiDanShen Dropping pills is made up of mongolian milkvetch root, dan-shen root, sanchi and rosewood, with the role of Supplementing Qi and activating blood. According to the Guidelines for Treatment of angina pectoris with Chinese Materia Medica, GUIDELINES FOR NEW DRUG CLINICAL TRIALS (1997 Edition3), we designed the clinical trials, which was randomized, double-blind and controled . YangXinShi tablet is used as the control drug. We undertook this study to evaluate the effects and side effects of the treatment with HuangQiDanShen Droped pill in angina pectoris patients with manifestation of Qi-deficiency and stagnation of blood. A total of 100 out-patients in cardiovascular internal madicine Dept of DongZhiMen hospital aged 38-70 years was studied. They are divided into test group (60 patients) and control group (40 patients) randomized, between which there is no significant difference in age, sex, illness course and severity digree. 4 weeks after treatment, test drug is more efficient than control drug in symptom bettering (78.3% vs 72.5%), electrocadiogram improving (48.3% vs 42.5% ) and reducing use of Nitroglycerin (83.3%vs 75%). But there is no remarkable statistical difference between two groups. In hemorhelogy, the blood viscosity, plasma viscosity improved in both two groups compared with before treatment, but between which there is no remarkable statistical difference. In TCM symptom, both two drug have the same effect to relieve chest pain, chest stress et al. However test drug has more significant effects than control drug in Inertia and rapid breathing (P<0.05). It was not observed there be obvious and serious side effects. In summery, it is concluded that HuangQiDanShen Dropping pills is effective and safe for the management of patients with Angina pectoris patients with manifestation of Qi-deficiency and stagnation of blood, and it suggests that "Supplement Qi and activate blood method" is one of the most effective methods to cure angina.
