Objective:(1) Based on TCM symptomatology and TCM etiology, to investigate symptom and syndrome apparent in Lacunar Infarction (LI) patients with cognitive impairment through comparing and analyzing the difference between LICI group and LI group.(2) The analysis of this case-control study will help to find the risk factors of cognitive impairment in LI patient so as to provide a fundamental preventing and treatment strategy through the use of TCM in LI cognitive impairment.Method:(1) 104 chosen and observed cases were from clinic and ward at Dong Fang hospital from Jul., 2004 to Fed., 2006. Epidemiological survey was adopted in the study, including inquiry to 104 patients divided into two groups: contrast group was LICI group in which were 53 patients of LI with apparent cognitive impairment, and observation group is LI group in which were 51 patients of LI without cognitive impairment. Both were according to unified selecting standards, filling out questionnaire for symptoms and signs, and investigating frequencies of different symptoms and TCM syndromes.(2) The experiment was performed according to established diagnosis standards of TCM and Western Medicine. The standards of case selection are as follows: (a) The diagnosis standards of the LI references from the amended book of The Outlines of Various Cerebral Vascular Diseases in the Fourth National Academic Conference about cerebral vascular diseases by the China Medical Committee 1995 edition. (b) The general assessment of the cognitive functions references from the assessment of the DSM-â…£in combination with CDR, MMSE, and GDS. (c) The sub-item assessment of social functional activities and daily life ability references from Blessed Behavior Score. (d) The assessment standard of the degree of the nervous functional deficiency references from NIHSS. (e) The assessment of depressed state references from Hamilton Depression Scale.
