Human herpersvirus 6 ( HHV-6 ) is a noved human herpersvirus isolated in recent years. It's not only the major causitive agent of the mild childhoud disease exanthem subitum (ES), but also associated with AIDS, Lympho-proliferative disorders, antimmune disease and infection of patients with immunodeficiency disease etc. The researches on HHV-6 are just at the initial stage in China. In order to promote the scientific researches on biological properties, pathogenicity, pathogensis, prevention of HHV-6 extensively, we explored the prevalence of HHV-6 infiction in 34 renal transplant recipients by virus isolation, serology, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by molecular hybirdization. The peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) isolated from the renal transplant recipients was cocultured with cord blood lymphocytes (CBL)actived by PHA. About two weeks later, some large, refractile, balloon cell appeared, when the culture was examined by eletron microscope, herpersvirus-like partides were found. We also indentified these virus pantides with indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and PCR, southern blot test, the results demonstrated these virus partices have HHV-6 specificity. The virus was named HHV-6 "ZH2"...
