Sino-vietnamese refers to the pronunciation of Chinese characters resulted from Chinese-Vietnamese natural or text contact. According to viewpoints of previous studies, this dissertation divides sino-vietnamese into two major types:SVA (sino-vietnamese type A, equals to "Sino-vietnamese" by Wang Li) and SVB (Sino-vietnamese type B), which can be further divided into SVB1 (equals to "Ancient Sino-Vietnamese" by Wang Li) and SVB2 (equals to "Vietnamcized Chinese" by Wang Li).This dissertation argues first that the division of SVA and SVB facilitates the study. Based on this point, this dissertation chooses SVA in early romanized Vietnamese texts as the object of detailed analysis. Guided by heterogeneous linguistic theory, this dissertation employs the methods of historical linguistics to examine exceptions of sound rules, making a thorough study of SVA of 17th Century. This dissertation proposes new viewpoints to the formation and development of SVA and a theoretical explanation to the formation of SVB, distilling a theory of "internal contact".Internal contact:owing to language contact, two set of phonologies are formed in a language: one is the phonology of loan words, the other is that of native words. These two set of phonologies contact each other in language change and get mutual influence, then they gradually merge. This is a special case in language contact, which is named "internal contact" in this dissertation.Based on achievements of previous studies, this dissertation carries out work as follows:1. Redefining and reclassifying Sino-vietnamese.2. Proposing the table of ordered correspondence rules between Middle Chinese and SVA of 17th Century, and that of modern times.3. Tabulating the syllable inventory of SVA of 17th Century.4. Proposing the concept of "internal contact" and analyzing the mechanism of internal contact.
