The dissertation is entitled "Studies on the Examination Scheme of the Tang Dynasty." According to the school regulation, the doctoral dissertation submitted for argumentation should be as long as 150,000 words in general. The present typed one to be submitted is but the former five chapters of the dissertation, which is about as long as 250,000 words totally.Preface Section It mainly discusses the conception, the approach and the process of writing the dissertation. It aims at the Examination Scheme of the Tang Dynasty (ESTD) as object of study. First, it discriminates and straightens ESTD out. Second, it proofreads and analyses the meaning of the extant ESTD. Third, it approaches the practical meanings of ESTD bash for the government and the individuals in their political lives. Fourth, it examines the literariness of ESTD and its relevance to the literature of the Tang dynasty. Finally, it elucidates and discusses properly the meaning of ESTD from the stand of the modem literature.Chapter One The Examination Scheme Series of Ming Jing The examination scheme of "Chang Ming Jing"undergoes three phases; "Zhun Ming Jing" mainly embraces subject for examination as follows: Five Scriptures, Specialized One Scripture, Kaiyuan Li, San Zhuan, History, San Li, Subject for children under the age of ten, Taoist Scriptures, and the Miscellaneous Learning, "Lei Ming Jing" generally includes Law, Calligraphy, and Ming Suan subject. There is a scheme examination almost in every subject from Ming Jing Series; Sometimes, there is only scheme examination; Scheme is normally the last key item in the multi-item examination.
