Hengyang dialect and Changsha dialect belong to the same sub-xiang-dialects. This thesis is intended to study the grammatical system of Hengyang dialect, which is distributed in Hunan province. It consists of ten chapters of about 100000 words, and is mainly concerned with the two aspects as following: The first is to give a detailed description on the synchronic grammar of the Hengyang dialect, including, bound forms, state adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, modal words, aspects of verbs, forms of degree, the interrogative sentence, etc. We can get the main grammatical features of the Hengyang dialect through those descriptions above. The second is a comparing the Hengyang dialect with the ancient Chinese, Mandarin and some other relating dialects, with the purpose to distinguish the phenomenon of language and to explore regular patterns of them.We can come to the conclusion based on the analyses above that: 1. There are many grammatical phenomena of the Hengyang dialect which are very different from that of Mandarin while are similar to that of the south dialects. Some of them are the heritage of the ancient Chinese obviously. 2. As a member of the Xiang dialects, the Hengyang dialect there are some few grammatical phenomena that are different from that of the other members. This indicates the influence comes from the other dialects or linguistics and the new development results come of the dialect itself.
