Studies in Geography of Tangut tried to show geographic settings of Tangut through analysis of different elements. The paper can be divided into five parts: territory and boundary , administrative establishments, climate , ecology and vegetation , economic divisions. Following is main content of five chapters.Forming and Changing of Territory clearly emerged changing of territory from Dingnanjun to destruction of Tangut , nearly four centuries. Related problems also were discussed.The Order of Departments in the Law of Tiansheng and Administrative Establishments of Tangut explained administrative establishments of Tangut by reading documents of law excavated in Heishuicheng , which lies in the northwest of Inner Mongolia . The paper illustrated administrative establishments of Tangut should be : five Fu, ten Zhou, two Jun, nine Xian, ten military Jun, seventeen sixteen fortresses.Physical Geography : Climate mainly discussed two problems : changes in temperature and humidity of climate. Analysis of former one based on the comparison of the past and present phenology ; the arid and flood records of Tangut can explain the last one.Physical Geography: ecology and vegetation reconstructed vegetation features of Tangut, Which discussed in many districts: Ordos Plateau, Boundary of Song and Tangut, Alxa Plateau, Hexi Corridor. The paper also concerned wild animals , destruction and protection of environment.Forming of Economic Area and Related Problems firstly analysed factors for fonning of economic area of Tangut, especially human population. The paper pointed out Ordos and Alxa Plateau were pastoral area , Boundary of Song and Tangut, Hexi Corridor belonged to mixed pastoral—farming area , Ningxia Plain was fanning area . Meanwhile, the author paid close attention to migration of Dangxiang as well as environmental consequences led by mode of production at the Boundary of Song and Tangut.
