This thesis tends to analyze the implications of the phenomenon of cultural symbols by means of combining arbitrary principle and structural system principle to show clearly the full meaning of human culture and the variety,richness and creativeness of this contradictory body to change natural freedom of human beings and free thoughts of philosophy into their original form—self-creative activity through the process of symbolizing, to seek the state of human living in the meaningful,human self building word by regarding the human history as human's cultural history. All these have important meanings both in theory and in practice for understanding human nature and in showing peculiar characters of human beings in improving their state.ChapterⅠis an introduction. The great changes brought by information society make a great change in the way of human living. Symbols surpass the level of reason and become the first great concerned object in philosophy. As the root of human knowledge cannot be completely explained by reason, the study of symbols has become the frontier of academic study and provides a platform for interdisciplinary communication to show its cultural meaning and value. In particular, the reflections of modern philosophers in the twentieth about human language faculty and function start a new Copernican revolution and help improving the scientific level of humanity science, which is in conformity with historic tendency of scientific development, the whole academic development, and tendency of the culture development.ChapterⅡis about the present conditions and flaws of cultural symbols'study in the world. The cultural symbol study has closely connected with the academic range. There are two important schools of it. One is structuralism language semiotics represented by Saussure,Ernst Cassirer,Strawson,ect and the other is analysis philosophy semiotics represented by Peirce,Russed,Quine,Karl Popper,wittgenstein,ect.
