| The Old Chinese reconstructive phonology of Starostin and Zheng-Zhang Shang-fang are the newest achievement, which give rise to some fellows at home and abroad recently.They are called new three schools together with Baxter's Old Chinese phonology.In 1989 Starostin published Rekonstruckeija Drernekita jskoj Fonologicheskoj Sistemy in Moscow, which is his representative works in Old Chinese research. The old Chinese phonology of Mr Zheng-Zhang (2003) gathers together all that is good in old Chinese research.The main idea of this book has been seen in his papers from 1981 to 1995. Both of scholars not only put i'orward their ideas respectively in similar time, but also have some common in resource applying, method of research and conclusions. Starostin is open-minded in the comparison of Sino-Tebetan. He has rich materials and the range of comparison is extensive.Mr Zheng-Zhang has more superiority in Chinese national culture and the dialect of native language. He also pays attention to the comparison of Sino-Tebetan.They make full use of their own superiority to correct senior's reconstructive phonologies.In this paper, I'll make over-all comparison of two scholars' Old Chinese Phonology, to find their similarities and differences. I hope it will help us to have more common in Old Chinese research. The initial of old Chinese: The same: 1.Both of them reconstruct a consonant system of voiceless nasal liquid sound,Starostin marks them as:m, n, η, l,r, while Mr Zheng-Zhang does as: hm,hn, h, hl, hr.2. Both of them reconstruct initial Lai (æ¥) as r, initial Yi(以) as 1.3. Both of them reconstruct initial Qing(清)'s early Old Chinese asfricative sh.4. Both of them have a series of labial-velar and laryngeal in their Old Chinese initial systems.The difference:1.
