The study to body and mind today came to appear in Japan in the early 70th last century. The author managed to unveil the relationship between body and mind and aesthetics of calligraphy from four points of view, namely metaphysics, body and mind, calligraphic language and aesthetic style. And with it we intended to elucidate why the manuscripts and written correspondences are those master pieces of art.The first part is calligraphy metaphysics. It contains three points, the essence of aesthetics of calligraphy, the process of the essence forming and the subconscious during calligraphy production. We thought "invisible image" and "soundless sound" are the two primary features within the imagination thinking of the art of calligraphy. And since the Official Script of Han had been maturity, Chinese calligraphy eventually turned from craft to art. This is mostly about the possibility of the syncretism of body and mind. Part two is mainly about the relationship between body and mind and aesthetics of calligraphy, it's about how to achieve the syncretism. This is the key point of the study of body and mind. We thought nature and qi are the motivity and media of body and mind, and the syncretism based on the process of "body-nature-qi-mind". For Confucianism persist in moral cultivation, the qi is from morality. While Taoism sticks to the unification of mankind and nature, the qi is from nature. They two ultimately unified in calligraphic practice. The third is from the point of calligraphic language view. We woke up to that every stroke of the calligraphist roots from his appreciation to space. With the study of his body language we could feel the calligraphist's inner rhythm. And all the writing style, technique, means of Chinese ink and arrangement are relevant to his life, experience, philosophy and his living quality. So we can conclude that the single and sincere of the calligraphist's life is the aesthetical true meaning of the art of calligraphy.Calligraphy style is the last part. Each style in calligraphy history closely connected with the calligraphists' personality, emotion and self-cultivation. And the syncretism of body and mind eventually reflects on calligraphy styles. Consequently, we could say the art of calligraphy is a realization but not expression for the body and mind of the subject. On the basis of the syncretism of body and mind, the promotion of the calligraphists' life and aesthetics could come true ultimately.
