The dimensions of translation studies, as demonstrated by the existing achievements both at home and abroad, could inevitably be classified into lingual, cultural and social scopes. It could be inferred that the relations among individuals, practice and society or, in other words, text-oriented (target text in particular) & agents-oriented (author, translator, audience, etc.) are revealed via the production, distribution and reception of translated works. It is therefore feasible to respond, reflect and reconstruct Sociology of Translation named by James Holmes in 1972, following Descriptive school's research methodology, that is, taking translation process, product, and function into consideration.Guided by Marxist social theory, human practice and social analysis in particular, and discourse resource, ie. individuals, society and practice, this paper is intended to challenge deconstruction and advocate reconstruction on account of the paradigm's evolution. This paper is aimed to testify that different understandings of translation product and social reality in terms of reflection, mediation and refraction, and the social image taking demand as social existence, choice as social consciousness and evaluation as social intercourse, lead to the necessity and complexity of the conflict between the world of target text and that of reality, featuring the nature of authenticity and art, individual and society.Self-scanning and Other-recomposing views translators as actors via qualification and status, choice of text and translation strategy; text as production object concerning text type and nature; patronage as supervisor including edition and publication. Manipulation of Society and Ups and Downs of Subject discusses power and discourse, form and system, individual and society. Distribution via Society and Consumption of Capital examines social and academic distribution paradigm in terms of thought of translation and translation of thought, society in translations and translations in society, and progressive extending of western learning to the East and eastern to the West. Flux of Mediation and Evolution of Translations puts translation of network and that of words and pictures in fictitious world under discussion. This paper holds that the necessity and possibility for the conflict between the world of target text and that of the reality to alleviate or resolve, therefore, is not a matter of language or culture, but society. This demonstrates the need and feasibility to combine translation theory, history with criticism. In addition, the nature of translation product as constructing social relationship in the real world and its role in aiding understanding and settling social problems could be fully interpreted. To sum up, provided that social turn is not put forward following lingual and cultural turn, the name and nature of sociology of translation will of course wait for a systematic construction. In this case, the research, from What to How in translation studies, will objectively account for the functions that translations have continuously performed, not merely in the disciplines of philosophy, religion and so forth, but in every step human civilization has made.
