The Study Of Japan's Southern Advance Policy On China And Registered Taiwanese: 1895-1945

Taiwanese who had Japan citizenship but did not dwell in Taiwan during Japan occupation were called registered Taiwanese. This research focuses on Japan southern advance policy and the activities of Taiwan gang on southern China. Previous researches on southern advance policy have 2 big defects. The first is too particular about Taiwan Governor-general's across-bank policy without clearly explaining its veiled and real meaning, the relationship between Taiwanese and continent policy, and the alternative strategy after the main policy defeated. The second is no systematic research on Taiwan gang, the pawn of continent policy. This research tries to redeem previous 2 shortcomings.According to Japanese activities on southern China then, we can classify Japan southern advance policy into 3 parts. The first is culture strategy toward across-bank area. The second is "ronin" strategy. The third is opium strategy. These 3 enforced by Taiwan Governor-general's office, Japan foreign ministry and Japan Army, briefed as Japan government below, were very important strategies of Japan southern advance policy on southern China. And these 3 can be separated into "the front strategy" and "the back strategy". The former is about registered Taiwanese education, Hakuai hospital and newspaper enterprises. The latter is about "ronin" strategy and opium strategy. The former is mainly to cultivate relation of amity with China, which is the front purpose of southern advance policy. And the latter emphasized the back purpose of it, to support latent power on China.This lemma has a very broad range, so it must be limited to the ambit of registered Taiwanese. That is to say, Japan southern advance policy only has relationship with Taiwanese, especially the Taiwan gang, can be considered in this study. Therefore, the second point of this study is about the process of formation and development of Taiwan gang, and its relationship with Japan southern advance policy.Under mutual dialogue of these 2 lemmas, we can clearly understand the operation mechanism of 3 strategies of Japan southern advance policy, and the position of it which Taiwan gang deposited on.
