Research On Emotion And Emotion Regulation-strategies Of Criminal Police In Shanghai

How is the current emotional situation of criminal police in Shanghai? How do they regulate their emotions? What factors will influence their regulation of emotion?To solve the above problems, based on the existing documents, the research investigated the emotions and emotion regulation-strategies of criminal police by questionnaires, experiment and interview.As for the part of investigation, demographic variables, emotion states, ability of emotion regulation, ability of emotion discernment, and personality were investigated by self-revised and existing questionnaires. The results show that (1) there is no statistical differences between the extent of the positive and negative emotion, both of which can be found in the daily work and lives of the criminal police; (2) excitement, sense of self-achievement and sense of pride, which are identified as positive emotions, and tiredness, tension, suppression, anxiety, which are seen as negative emotions, are most frequent feelings in criminal police; (3)The type of emotion is relevant with the ability of emotion regulation, the ability of emotion discernment and personality. The subject, who does better in emotion regulation, not dominated by emotions, aware of emotions and accepting his emotions, who can discern other's feelings well and achieve higher score in scale E and lower scores in scale P and N of EPQ, he will have more positive emotions and less negative emotions.In the part of experiment, how the tasks were finished by the criminal police was inspected after they were induced some kind of emotion. The results show that (1) there is no significant difference in the simple tasks among the criminal police, while there exists significant difference in the complicated cognitive tasks between the excellent group and normal group, there is also significantly different between the two groups who are the highest 25% and lowest 25% in scale N; (2) biological changes, skin conductivity (SC) and heart rates (HR), were inspected. SC and HR rise during the tasks and descend during the rests. Higher neur-oticism group exhibited greater increase during task periods and decrease during rest periods than the lower neuroticism group.In the part of interview, emotion regulation-strategies and the factors that influence emotion regulation were concerned by qualitative research. Four kinds of strategies are summarized, which are expressing feelings, experiencing feelings, recognizing emotions and coping. There are several methods in each kind of strategy. There are many factors which influence regulation of emotion. Individual factor, which are personality, cognitive styles, attitude, and capability, professional factors, which are the nature of job, organization management,. job environments and job development, are revolved.In the end, the research gives some suggestions on promoting positive emotions and lowering negative emotions according the results of the investigation of criminal police in Shanghai.
