The Qiyang Dialect Speech Research

Qiyang lies in Yongzhou city,the south part of Hunan Province,and its dialect belongs to Xiang dialect,Yongquan cluster.Based on the field work,the present dissertation put emphasis on the deeper inspection of the phonological phenomena such as the value of the voiced initial,stoplization of middle initial Lai,ficative vowel,nasal reheme,tone development,Tone-sandhi and diachronic strata analysis in Qiyang Dialect.Starting from synchronic and diachronic approaches,we try to deepen the recognization of phonological category change of Qiyang Dialect even Xiang dialect.This dissertation consists of six chapters,the chief content is showed as follows:Chapter 1 consist of five quarter,which mainly introduced the geographic location,population,historical changes and administrative division of Qiyang. Section 3 is an introductory of the classification of Qiyang Dialect,as well as an overview of previous research of this topic.Chapter 2 described the phonology system of Qiyang Dialect.It described the detailed phonetic systems of Qiyang clusters,the chapter described the vowel acoustic space of Qiyang Dialect with the approach of sound pattern.The dialectal geography mapwhich show the difference between different clusters is drawed.In the end,it gave a table of homophones.Chapter 3 is devoted to the the voiced initial.and the stoplization of the ancient initial Lai mu.The voiced stop and affricate consist of two kinds in Qiyang dialect: one is aspirate vowel which mainly existed in old fashion,the other is unaspirate which exists in the new fashion.This chapter made a deeply analysis on the sound value and feature of the voiced initial of QiYang by comparing with other Xiang dialects.the chapter has a statistical on the initial devoicing proportion,then put forword a hypothesis which can explain the phenomenon initial devoicing by combining the type of initial devoicing of other Xiang dialects.The second quarter mainly discussed the condition,type and mechanism of the stoplization of ancient initial Lai,which can be proved a secondary change. Chapter 4 is devoted to the the final of Qiyang Dialect.The chapter mainly studied the fricative vowel and nansal endings.The fricative high vowel[i][y]lead to the differentiation of ancient sound category,which can be realized by lexical diffusion.Affected by mandarin,there exists the turning round sound change in young fashion.The nasal phoneme consits of fundamental phoneme,marginal phoneme and derival phoneme,the later are constrained by the fundamental phoneme.Chapter 5 is devoted to the tone system of Qiyang Dialect.Based on the acoustic experiment and statistic analysis,this chapter disussed the tone,Tone-sandhi.in Qiyang Dialect this dissertation has a dynamic analysis on the tone and Tone-sandhi of the four age levels,then made a detailed inspection on the tone category,tone value and tone type.Chapter 6 is devoted to the the historical strata in Qiyang Dialect.The first quarter teased the strata of some sound category in Qiyang Dialect.The second quarter made a analysis on some sound category change during one hundred and fourty years.The epilogue summarized the rules restricting the sound change of Qiyang Dialect,and points out some original ideals and deficiencies of the dissertation.
