An Anthropological Study On Hui Rural Women's Disease And Health

Taking Xiayinwa village of Linxia county. Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture in Gansu province as a main case in this dissertation, and citing the field material of the other area in Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture to strengthen the credibility of this dissertation, then we use the feminine angle to pay attention to and research Hui women's healthy question, in the further to investigate the inner connection about women's health and the geography, the environment, the gender, the cultural and belief, and explore the interaction between women's health and their development. Although women's healthy question of Xiayinwa village can not completely represent the whole condition of the northwest rural women, at least it has represented women's healthy condition of one kind of the village-types, to a certain extent it has reflected the essential feature of the northwest rural women's healthy condition.This dissertation includes nine chapters:Chapter one (the introduction) has firstly introduced the research background from three aspects:the tradition of Chinese rural community 's anthropological research, the vigorous feminine anthropology and the thriving medical anthropology, and then it has reviewed and evaluated the present situation of the relevant research from the traditional content of Hui women's research and the research between the disease and the health of Hui women, lastly it has illustrated and explained the representative question about the village, the basic concepts, the main investigative methods, the investigative significance and the field work.Chapter two has introduced the condition of Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture and Xiayinwa village first, and then following the theme about the disease and the health of women, it has interpreted women's basic condition from the three aspects Famiy. Religion and Community.Chapter three to eight based on the field investigation, with the whole concern of the anthropology, it has executed more careful and comprehensive observation. description and analysis about women's health) condition from several aspects: Physical health. Psychological health. Ternary medical systems. Sickness-behavior. Resources which can be used to cure diseases with the problems followed and the countermeasures to improve women's healthy standard.Chapter three has carried on the statistical analysis with 215 women's healthy material who are belong to five age-sections, obtained the kinds of diseases, the disease incidence and the characteristic of sickness, and summarized the main pathogenesis including the four factors which are the geographical environment, the society, the regional culture and the gender.Chapter four starting from the view of the belief and culture has limited, analyzed and named the diseases which are belong to the psychological health, because Busongfan. the bodily ache and the psychological fear are caused by Yibuliesi. so we call them as Yibuliesi symptom that is one special symptom produced by the culture which can be cure bv DuwaChapter five firstly has discussed the medical model, the relationship between the doctor and the patient and the problems existed of the modern medicine, secondly it has introduced and discussed the philosophical basis, the traditional Chinese medicine's westernization and the main problems of the Chinese medicine, lastly it has paid more attention to Duwa devotional system with the bold limits and analysis based on the faithful investigative data, fundamentally Duwa devotional system is the religious medical belief, however in the long-term ethnic development and interaction, it also has mixed with the thick folk characteristic which can be regarded as one kind of national medicine too. Duwa devotional system has certain superiority and validity, contemporary it also has some insufficiency and problems, so we should dialectically and tolerantly regard its existence.Chapter six has limited and discussed the\-i\c characteristics or stages of women's sickness-behavior including the experience, the judgment, the populace medical idea's treatment, the specialists'treatment and Duwa devotional system's treatment.Chapter seven has expounded the resources used by women to cure their diseases which are the resources from the husband's household and the maternal home, then it has revealed two major problems:firstly the economic resource overall is insufficient, secondly women are at the weak position in the insufficient economic resource's assigned structure, so they always initiatively or passively transfer their resources to the other people or events.Chapter eight has carried on the thinking about women's high disease incidence and low health) standard based on L.inxia Hui autonomous prefecture's condition.Chapter nine is a summary, conclusion and prospect of the whole dissertation, by the review above, we have the following understanding:firstly we have more deep understanding about Duwa devotional system whose basis and core are from the Islamism. the Islam's culture and belief which reflects the philosophy about how to govern the country and people, at the same time, it contains Chinese traditional cultural factor to a certain extent. Secondly we have the new cognition about the concept of health under the anthropological angle:the health contains the physical health, psychological health and social health which are belong to an indivisible entity, and it also consists of the cultural and devotional factors reflecting the whole perspective of the heaven, the earth and human who should be harmony and unity. Lastly women's health and development are affected by and mutually condition each other, in order to change women's low healthy standard and lagging development, we need vigorously reform the law and change the community policy to increase the support for women, and the transfusion of blood from the government and society for a long time can enable women as the minority group to actually exert their subjective initiative to finish the transformation from the transfusion of blood to the hemopoiesis. promote women's comprehensive development, enhance women's healthy standard, and really achieve people's dignity and security.
