University agriculture extension services in the period of Republic of China is an extremely historic and realism topic. Based on primary sources of profiles, collections, diaries and school magazines, This paper makes an in-depth study of the university agriculture extension services from the interaction of college education and social development in the period of Republic of China. On the core idea and trend of "service" and "development", this paper investigates the situation of university agriculture extension service and historical condition of university agronomy development in different times of the Republic Period by documentary method, case study method, development analysis method, comparative analysis method and so on. It in-depth studies university of agriculture and promote the development of regional experimental purpose, content, methods, the effectiveness and difficulty. Setting out from the president perspective of social services for the camera, this Paper reveals that the effect of agriculture extension as the conduct of university to promote running university. It analyses the achievement, characteristics, experience and deficiencies and modern value of university extension campaign based on the knowledge of pedagogies, economics, and agriculture extension and so on. It also subjectively makes an analysis on university extension campaign to reveal the development of social service function of university, providing enlightenment on the service of "country, farming and farmer"for contemporary university.Specifically, this paper can be divided into three parts, the first part is chapter 1 to 2, to introduce the history background and development situation of University agriculture extension; the second part is chapter 3 to 4, to in-depth study specific implementation of university agriculture extension; the third part is chapter 5 and the end, to analyses the experience and deficiencies and modern value of university extension campaign. The specific main research and studies will be as follows:1. University agriculture extension services in the period of Republic of China resulted from the impact of the particular historical time of economy, polity and education.Because of the serious rural economic crisis, intellectuals back from American universities actively sought to resolve the crisis, and introduced the concept of the combination of the social service and teaching research to promote an efficient way of agriculture extension to open an ideal path to save the National crisis. Because the university agriculture extension and the county reform of government's rule coincidently shared the same purpose, its development and opportunity gained very valuable time, and became a great reform and rejuvenation campaign. Due to restriction of many traditional factors, the universities and the government all tried to overcome the crisis by technological innovation; therefore, the agricultural technology extension became the major task of university agriculture extension, and lasted in the whole historical Republic Period.2.The university agriculture extension in period of Republic of China varied according to the changes of the time, and it had gong through four stages--- budding stage (1897-1911), start-up stage (1912-1927),maturation stage (1927-1937) and transition stage (1937-1949).It showed the historical stream of naissance, development, peak time and recession. From the beginning of Republic Period to the prior period of Anti-Japanese War, the system establishment, extending coverage and extending effect of the university agriculture extension were showing up. But they declined on a general level as universities and colleges were moved to the inland, and the main purpose of universities and colleges shift to training and education of talent. However, the inland movement had also brought to the local cultures modern civilization and technology, and helped to solve many practical problems in the local agricultural production and in people's life. Thus it promoted and improved the local modern civilization, culture, science as well as technology. After the Anti-war, colleges and universities were re-built and university agriculture extension became almost atrophied.3. Originated from poor condition of sponsoring and regional characteristics of agricultural production in period of Republic of China, the university agriculture extension took the form of regional experiment, which can be divided into scattered and concentrated. Scattered regional experiment began from all testing in the area of the university established farming soil test in 1920s. Due to poor outcome and test area wide, until 1930s, the university changed the distributed extension into centralized extension, and concentrated the power to establish some certain stable extension test areas. The most representative and effective regional experiment is in the township and in the county for agriculture experiment. Ten years before the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War was the golden age for university agriculture extension regional test.4. Due to growth of the disaster environment and litterateur knowing both the Chinese and western culture, the university headmasters formed the concept of social services. They advocated reading not forget to save the nation, and proposed the university community servicing for the society, people and Country, Cultivating the lead to remake society, to transfer the Country.They attach importance to the education and training, develop a character of patriotism and commitment to sacrifice. As a result, the promotion of social services in an effective method in college, agriculture extension became a school act. As the president of famous university, Zhu Kezhen, Chen Yuguang and Zou Lu, their conception of social services and leading of the agriculture extension services, declared value of agriculture extension in the development and social development.5.The agriculture extension in universities in the period of Republic of China was much successful. It contributed to the advancement of agriculture technology and county education, and the great-leap-forward development in aspects of subjects, majors, and teachers, and derived the new role in social services.The university agriculture extension had many typical characteristics such as distinct region, diversity of participating universities, and coexist of flexible, independent and dependent content and form......Due to restricting of various factors, the university agriculture extension was insufficient in talents, funds, and effects and thus could not spread well.6. The theory and practice on the university agriculture extension in during the period of Republic of China, brought many beneficial enlightenment in teaching and research, promoting integrated mode of operation of schools, university agricultural science education resources reasonable configuration, Changing the behavior of farmers and College services for "country, farming, farmers" etc. We can learn from History that university should play their own advantages of science and technology in today's society, to promoting the development of science and technology, culture, education and so on, and make new historical contributions.
