People’s living standards, dietary and behavioral habits have been changing with the social development. Overweight and obesity are rapidly becoming a popular phenomenon in the low and middle income countries. It trend to be spreaded in the younger age people. Modern medicine has no effective strategies and interventions on obesity prevention. In recent years, Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) has achieved remarkable effect to treat the obesity disease, especially by acupuncture to lose body’s weight. It has been widely accepted by patients for its non-toxic side effects and its remarkably effects. Unfortunately, it still lacks of standard protocol on syndrome differentiation and treatment. this study searched the obesity-related keywords in the China Medical Code. A total of1454items were detected. These provisions were sorted, and the awareness and treatment experience of ancient physicians on obesity were throughly combed. This study searched total of four database retrieval of Chinese Academic Journal Comprehensive Retrieved by computer assistance and manual help. A total of1,817Chinese literatures on the treatment of obesity have been collected. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of291articles related with treating obesity by acupuncture have been screened out. All of these articles were studied by mathematical analysis and descriptive statistics on obesity etiology, disease location, disease resistance, syndrome, treatment, acupuncture meridians and points selected aspects. In order to further explore the rules of acupuncture treatment of obesity, this study also filter out a total of92dialectical type of acupuncture literature reflecting Chinese dialectical theory of governance from291to have featured data mining. By this way, the association rules between syndrome and point has been explored on acupuncture treatment of obesity. Objective:The purpose of this study is try to explore the theory’s origin of the etiology, machines, syndrome and treatment of obesity by combining the consideration of ancient physician on obesity. This study try to set up the scientific, standardized acupuncture treatment model on obesity by summarizing contemporary physicians effective experience on acupuncture treating obesity. By this way, it can be used to improve clinical effect. The study also summarized the develop rule on the etiology, machines, syndrome and treatment of obesity by comparing the literatures between ancient and modern papers, supporting the theoretical basis for future in-depth study of obesity. Methods:Literature research, Frequency analysis, Data mining, Comparing.Results:1Results of ancient literature study:This study discovered that obesity has close relationship with diet, physical differences, frail, rest excesses, psychological factors and so on. Its pathogenesis involves blood stasis, heat, phlegm, qi deficiency, yang deficiency and yin deficiency. Invigorating spleen for eliminating dampness was widely used as treatment of obesity related diseases. Obesity is easily to induce a variety of disorders involving internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and pediatrics.2The results of modern literature studyThe result on frequency statisticsObesity etiology:The top four reasons are the improper diet, work and rest loss of degrees, impassioned internal injuries and congenital. Obesity disease location:Ordered by frequency of occurrence in the five internal organs were spleen, kidney, liver, lung and heart, and the mainly involving in the six fu organs are stomach, intestine and gall bladder. Obesity pathogenesis:Ordered by frequency of occurrence, they are excess, deficiency, cold and heat. The types of obesity syndromes:The main types are spleen deficiency and wet dampness syndrome, gastrointestinal excess heat syndrome, liver qi depression syndrome, spleen and kidney yang deficiency syndrome as well as stomach heat and wet dampness syndrome. The treatment of obesity:The main methods are invigorating spleen and eliminating wet dampness, clearing stomach heat, dredge liver qi and warming the spleen and kidney. Acupuncture meridians choice on obesity:We arranged those meridians according to the level of the frequency of the top five were:stomach, spleen, Ren, bladder and large intestine. The acupuncture points on obesity:Obesity acupuncture points are arranged according to the level of the frequency of the first five was:Tianshu, Zhongwan, Zusanli, Sanyinjiao and Qihai. They mainly distribute in the spleen meridian, stomach meridian and Ren meridian.Data mining:The point-point association rules analysis result on obesity:This study indicated the top five choice are often used in conjunction with a couple of acupuncture points are:Zhong wan and Tian shu; Guan yuan and Tian shu; Qi hai and Zhong wan; Feng Long and Zhong Wan, Feng Long and Zusanli. The top five acupuncture point groups are often used in triple points are Zu san li, Zhong wan and Tian shu; Guan Yuan, Tian shu and Zhongwan; San yin jiao, Zu san li and the Zhong wan; Da hen, Tian shu and Zhong wan; Qi hai, Zhong wan and Zu san li.Conclusion:We found that obesity does not appear as a specific disease in the history. The ancient physicians thought hat improper diet is a major cause of obesity occurs, they advocated that pathogenesis of obesity is most come from phlegm. There is no diagnosis standard and systematic therory. There was no specific paper on the therapies and treatments for obesity. In acupuncture treatment, there was no specific knowledge of acupuncture treatment on obesity in addition to the acupuncture principle of "deeply keeping" and "the more, the better".By the modern literature study, we found that obesity is a multi-factorial combined result based on the improper diet. The main obesity disease locations in the inner organs are stomach and spleen, may involve liver, most poplar pathogenic are excess and cold. This disease in clinical are usually appeared by spleen deficiency and dampness syndrome, gastrointestinal excess heat syndrome, liver qi depression syndrome, syndrome of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney syndrome, stomach heat and dampness syndrome. The method of invigorating the spleen for eliminating dampness, clearing stomach and purging heat, Liver Qi, tonifying the spleen and kidney are the key therapy methods. The acupuncture therapies usually select the points which related stomach and Ren meridians. The result of comparing study shown that ancient literatures lacked of systematic understand and discourse on obesity, but its scattered in the discussion, especially phlegmatic hygrosis pathogenesis provided a guidance for the future. The modern Chinese medicine has set up the name of obesity; have a deeper understanding on obesity hazards; thought hat improper diet, emotion and hereditary factor are the major cause of obesity occurs and according to modern Chinese medicine, take standard body weight, weight index and etc. objective indicator as the diagnostic criteria. Modern medicine still inherits ancient physicians’ cognitions, emphasize spleen and stomach, phlegmatic hygrosis pathogenesis. The acupuncture therapy is regarded as main treatment method. Syndrome differentiation system has gradually established, but standardization needs to be strengthened. In summary, obesity is mainly due to improper diet, which will reduce stomach, liver and other organ dysfunction, it also can produce essence of water and grain metabolic disorder, as well as produce phlegm, dampness, blood stasis and other pathological products, lead to resistance stomach, meridians and qi. Gastrointestinal real hot is the common mechanism in the beginning. In the interim term, spleen deficiency-wet storm and qi stagnation are very popular. In the late, spleen deficiency deteriorated, which usually involved the kidney. Acupuncture treatments usually take recovering spleen and running Qi as well as clear phlegm and reduce fat as the main treatment strategy. The points of Tianshu, Zhongwan, Zusanli, Sanyinjiao and Qihai which distribute on the spleen, stomach and Ren meridians are usually selected. They will be matched depending on the different syndrome types. By this way, it can recover the spleen and stomach function; supplement Qi and warm yang; phlegm cellulite; smooth flow of Qi; the root causes and symptom.
