Research Background:Recent statistics have revealed that the mortality and contraction of colorectal canceris exponentially increasing. Thus far, the most typical form of treatment is none otherbut the rudimentary removal of the infected area through a surgery. Yet, the aftermathis far from encouraging as almost 50%of treated patients die within 5 years after thesurgery. In other words, one out of every two operated patients will experience relapses, deterioration of condition due to the side effects of any prescribed medication orundesirable reaction to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Hence, the search for aneffective but less potent drug or other forms of medical treatment is the currentchallenge in the pathology of colorectal cancer. At this juncture, the Traditional Chinese Medicine natural way of strengthening thebody resistance to eliminate pathogenic factors caused by the cancer plays a moreimportant role than the current practiced treatments of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Objective:Till today, little has been done in Traditional Chinese Medicine to research on theregularity of colorectal cancer symptoms. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is topresent findings, which were uncovered from my research on the degeneracy of thisdisease, based on the study of symptoms diagnosed from colorectal cancer sufferers. It also provides an opportunity to use the hypothesis formulated, in the clinicaltreatment of these patients, to yield a better understanding of the disease in order toachieve a higher recovery rate.Subject and Methodology:A sample of 167 patients who are pre-qualified as colorectal cancer sufferers were testtreated. Test results were analysed to reveal how factors such as age, gender, apatient’s pathological pattem and stage, forms of treatment received, namely surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, presence and development of tumor, etc, affect thedegeneration of the disease. All data collected was processed by SPSS to arrive at aconclusion. Conclusion:My study has shown that colorectal cancer is most prevalent in the elderly. Cancer isoften infested in the rectum. Most of them are diagnosed to be adenoma cancer(pathological pattern) and almost 50%are atⅣstage of the cancer.75%of these sufferers opt to undergo surgery, out of which two-thirds of themexperience tumor changes. Within this sample of 167 sufferers, 56.9%of themoriginally suffered from spleen deficiency and damp heat stagnation. 20.3%had bothqi and blood deficiency while 9.6%of them possess internal stasis of dampness andheat. Qi stagnation and blood stasis together with spleen and kidney yang deficiencysyndrome makes up 4.2%and the last 2.4%suffered from damp heat endogenoustoxin and liver-kidney yin deficiency.Based on the statistics above, a conclusion has been drawn. The main cause ofcolorectal cancer is due to weakness in the original health of the body which causessubsequent development of symptoms such as damp heat and stasis toxins. A weakspleen and stomach or combination of spleen-kidney deficiency, counter triggered bydamp heat and stasis toxins brings about the development of the cancer. Using theTraditional Chinese Medicine way of reinforcing the body resistance to eliminatethese listed pathogenic factors will be the best way to suppress the degeneration ofcolorectal cancer.
