Therefore the paper is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, Xiji view of people in the pre-Qin period is discussed. The view mainly derived from Shanhai ching, and was also consolidated from other works in the pre-Qin period. So Xiji view including of ideas of customs and system, geographical indications and rare products began to develope in the pre-Qin period. The view was also formed in early exchanges between the eastern and western world.People from Han to Tang dynasties carried forward and developed the view in more closely exchanges between the eastern and western world, which mainly consisted in the view of geographical location, customs and system and rare products on the farthest region in the west. So the details are respectively explained from chapters2to4in this paper. In the second chapter, the view of the farthest region in the west and geographical locations from Han to Tang dynasties is disscused. Firstly, from Han to Jin dynasties, people thought Tiochi and Da-chin in the farthest western region one after another. Then Western sea, Quicksand and the place of Queen Mother of the west and so on as the geographical indications of farthest western region were shift to the farther region in the west. Secondly, from Sui to Tang dynasties, Chinese regarded Fu-li as the farthest area in the west. But because people had received more geographical knowledge in closely exchanges between Chinese and western world, Western Sea was perceived as the main geographical indication of farthest western region. In a word, ancient Chinese treated with people in the farthest western region on equal terms. The third chapter is focused on the view of customs and system in the farthest area in the west. This was the view containing true and false knowledge, which was originated from the previous view and developed from the news in closely intercultural communication of the west and the east from Han to Tang dynasties. It showed that ancient Chinese had developed xiji view, which regarded the farthest western district as Heaven on earth. The forth chapter is paid close attention to Chinese view of rare products in the farthest western region from Han to Tang dynasties. In the period, Chinese thought the farthest area in the west, such as Tiochi, Da-chin and Fu-li full of rare products. This was also the view containing true and false knowledge. In addition, a legend about a lot of treasures being gathered in the west was spread in Eurasia, including of China from three kingdoms period to Tang dynasty, showing Chinese view of rare products in the farthest western region in general was based on the fact. This study shows that Chinese have realized there is another center of civilization in the western world from pre-Qin period to Tang dynasties. In short, ancient Chinese Tixia view is composed of Xiji view and Huyi view. |
