Regulatory focus theory thinks that individuals will narrow the discrepancy between actual self and self-guides or self standards. This particular tendency names the regulatory focus. In order to reduce the discrepancy between actual self and ideal self, individuals will take promotion focus related to the need for growth. In order to reduce the discrepancy between real self and ought self, individuals will take preventive focus associated with the security need. Promotion focus characterizates desired end-states for the aspirations and achievements, individual will pay more attention to the positive results in the pursuit of goals, more experience the emotions related to "joy-depressed "; prevention focus characterizates desired end-states for the responsibility and safety, individual will pay more attention to negative results in the pursuit of goals, more experience the emotions related to"relax-Anger".Therefore, individuals will adopt different strategies in order to achieve the goal. Individual of promotion focus will take the strategy of "desire-close", and individuals of prevention focus will take the strategy of "vigilance-avoidance".The reaction of Psychological Process of Regulatory focus is attention, memory, imagination and psychological strategy. In attention, individuals of promotion focus tend to focus on the achievement and desire, focus on the positive results. Individuals of prevention focus always pay attention to the responsibilities and obligations, to focus on the negative results that they want to avoid. In memory, individuals of promotion focus tend to recall the information of positive result, individual of prevention focus often recalls the information of negative results.In the imagination, individuals of promotion focus are more likely to imagine themselves as the successful person in the future, And prevention focused individuals often imagine themselves as the person to avoid failures in the future.In the psychological strategy, individuals of promotion focus will take the strategies of desire, such as risk, optimistic. Individuals of promotion focus will use the strategies such as alert, cautious, predicting the possible obstacles etc.Study one explored the main dimensions of questionnaire and formed the pre-test questionnaire. Through the issuance and statistics of the open questionnaire, I formed a pre-test questionnaire contained 68 questions. Project analysis shows that regulatory focus scale has two subscales:promotion focus subscale and prevention focus subscale, the items have good discrimination, so there is no delete items. The results of exploratory factor analysis show that the total scale and theory are completely consistent, regulatory focus can divide into promotion focus and prevention focus. Factor analysis shows that each subscale can divide into two dimensions "attention-strategy" and "memory-imagination". Reliability analysis shows that the alpha coefficients of total scale, all subscales and each factor are in more than 0.8, shows good internal consistency. The statistical results show good construct validity. Confirmatory factor analysis shows that the model of the data fits well. The x2/df is 1.16, P value is 0.254, CFI is 0.905, AGFI is 0.759, RMSEA is 0.048, TLI is 0.871.The general RMSEA should not be greater than 0.1 and less than 0.08, the x2/df should be less than 5, more than 0.9 in GFI, p value is not significant.According to the confirmatory factor, the date of the questionnaire are in acceptable range, so the data of model fit is better.Therefore, the questionnaire is credible and effective.Study two researched on the relationship between self-made questionnaire and the scale of behavioral inhibit/behavioral approach used related research. Research shows that after controlling for the conditions of prevention focus, there is significant negative correlation between promotion focus and the inhibitory system. Promotion focus is positively correlated with reward sensitivity and internal driving force, has less with pleasure seeking. Overall, in control of thd conditions of prevention focus, the individual with higher scores of promotion focus, has the lower level of behavior inhibition, but has the higher level of the corresponding behavior approach. After controlling for the conditions of promotion focus, prevention focus and behavioral inhibition system have significant positive correlation. There is significantly negative correlation between prevention focus and behavioural approach system. Overall, after controlling for the conditions of promotion focus, the individuals with the higher scores of prevention focus have the higher level of the behavioral inhibition. Namely the individuals with higher scores of prevention focus are more inclined to stop or slow down their own behavioral responses, in order to avoid the negative consequences.Study three investigated the large sample questionnaire. Demographic analysis of psychological processes of regulatory focus shows that, each subscale and the factors show some differences in demographic variables. In terms of gender, boys show stronger promotion focus, girls show strong prevention focus. In the school category, college students show stronger prevention focus than the key university students and university students The interaction of demographic variables show some complexity. Specifically the interaction between gender and the only child is significantly in promotion focus and the factors. That is to say, the only boy in the scores of promotion focus and two factors are higher than the non-only boy. Non-only girls are higher than the only girl in the promotion of focus and the two factor. The interaction between gender and students resource is significantly in prevention focus and the factors. That is to say, the rural boys have lower scores of prevention orientation and two factors than the big city and small town boys, while the rural girls have higher scores than the big city and small town girls. The interaction between gender and school category is significantly in promotion focus and "memory- imagine" factor. College boys have higher scores than key university boys and university boys in promotion focus and "memory-imagine" factor, College girls have lower scores than key university girls and university girls. The interaction between only child and students resource is significantly in both promotion focus and "memory-imagine" factors and prevention focus and "memory-imagine" factor. Promotion focus and "memory-imagine" factor score of big city students are higher than small and medium-sized towns and rural areas ones. The scores of prevention focus and "memory-imagine" factor of students in big city are lower than the ones in small towns and rural, and the scores of prevention focus and "memory-imagine" factor of non-only students in big city are higher than non-only students in small towns and rural areas.The interaction between only child and school categories is significantly in prevention focus and "memory-imagine". The scores of college only students are lower than university only students in prevention focus and "memory-imagine" factor, and the scores of college non-only students are higher than university non-only students.Study four researched on the relationship between regulatory focus and the college students’ mental health. Regulatory focus and mental health have a close relationship. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the relevant knowledge of regulation focus in the service of college students’ mental health. It is necessary to increase the quantitative investigation and analysis on the relationship between regulatory focus and mental health, to train college counselors and education teachers of mental health, to adjust the regulatory focus theory into the classroom, to help students examine the kinds of regulatory focus, to mobilize the tutor in socialization with college students, and we can give a full range of mental health services with college students.In summary, this study found that regulatory focus of psychological process can be divided into promotion focus and prevention focus. Promotion focus can be divided into "attention-strategy" and "memory-imagine". Prevention focus can also be divided into "attention-strategy" and "memory- imagine", exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factors analysis show that its construct validity is reasonable. In addition, self-made questionnaire has good reliability and validity. There is correlation on self-made questionnaire and the scale of behavioral inhibit/ behavioral approach. Analysis of demography of regulatory focus investigated the performance of college students in regulatory focus.It can help university and society to understand the psychological status. It also can help enterprise to choose and employ the candidates of persons, to make decision. Regulatory focus has effects on mental health, so we can build mental health service system of college students based on the theory of regulatory focus.
