This dissertation is a reference grammar of Shaoxing Keqiao Wu Dialect, which spoken in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province.This dissertation is divided into ten chapters. Chapter1is a preliminary introduction to Keqiao and the language used there. Chapter2introduces the phonology of Keqiao dialect. Issues around syntactic structure are demonstrated form chapter3to chapter8. Chapter9concerns the semantic categories in this dialect and conclusion comes in Chapter10.Chapter1is a preliminary introduction to the geography and language of Keqiao. Relevant studies, the theoretical framework, research methodology as well as source of corpus are also included in this part.Chapter2focuses on the inventory of initials, finals, tones and the syllable structure in Keqiao Dialect.Chapter3discusses word, parts of speech and word-formation in Keqiao Dialect. Syntactic word and phonological word are first distinguished by means of typological analysis, and then parts of speech and word-formation are analyzed in the domain of syntactic words.Chapter4describes the nominal phrase in Keqiao Dialect. Nouns can be either modified by attributes or coordinated to be elaborated. In this chapter, denotative attributes (including determiner-classifier NPs, numeral-classifier NPs and possessive attributes etc.)、connotative attributes are discussed and the order of poly-attributes and coordination of nominal components are also described. Chapter5is a discussion of verbal phrase in Keqiao Dialect. Verb, adjective, and deseriptive are first introduced, and then verb-complement construction, verb-object construction and serial-verb construction are developed. Reference and coordination of predicates come finally.Chapter6gives a fine description of simple sentences in Keqiao Dialect. This chapter first describes the argument structure in Keqiao Dialect, then illustrates the adverbial modifiers, and finally comes to the discussion of topicalization and focus expression.Chapter7concerns the complex sentences and compound sentences.This part introduces complement clause (e.g. subject clause and object clause), attributive clause (e.g. relative clause and appositive clause), subordinate clause and coordinate clause.Chapter8devotes to sentence types in Keqiao Dialect. Interrogative sentences, imperative sentences and exclamatory sentences are analyzed and the modal particles at the end of sentences are also described.Chapter9summarizes such semantic categories as negation, aspect, modality, quantity, comparison etc.Chapter10explains the basic word order in Keqiao Dialect.
