"Zi"(子) and "er"(儿) are suffixes that widely exist in many dialects of Chinese,but there are many differences in distribution and usage among the dialects This thesis mainly researches distribution and function of "zi"(子) and "er"(儿),as well as the dialect type through "zi"(子) in Shishou and "er"(儿) in Beijing.This paper has contrasted the differences between "zi"(子) in Shishou and "er"(儿) in Beijing.We have a conclusion that there are two dialect types in the suffix:Shishou type and Beijing type.There is only "zi"(子) in Shishou type,"zi"(子) has the function of"zi"(子)and"er"(儿) in Beijingdialect.,Thereare"zi"(子) and"er"(儿) in Beijing type which exist definite division.This paper consists of five parts.The first chapter includes the main content,significance, the way of research,the style,and the explanation of concepts.The second and the third chapter are the main,mainly studies "zi"(子) in Shishou dialect and "er"(儿) in Beijing dialect.These two chapters have utilized the method of the description and the comparison,firstly described "zi"(子) in Shishou dialect and "er"(儿) in Beijing dialect.We discovery that there exists similarity between "zi"(子) in Shishou dialect and "er"(儿) in Beijing dialect.They may fill the function of the noun suffix,the adjective suffix,the classifier suffix,and have the functions of word formation,change of word-class,discrimination of word meaning,expression equivalent for the english suffix'-let',low degree,hypocoristic,disparaging.According to the comparison result,We draw a conclusion initially:because there is not "er"(儿) in Shishou dialect,"zi"(子) in Shishou dialect has the function of both "zi"(子) and "er"(儿) in Beijing dialect.So we think that Shishou dialect and Beijing dialect should be two different types of dialect:there is only "zi" (子) in Shishou dialect,"zi"(子) has the function of "er"(儿) in Beijing dialect,there are "zi" (子) and "er"(儿) in Beijing dialect which exist definite division.Shishou dialect and Beijing dialect possibly belong to two different type dialects in the suffixes of "zi"(子) and "er" (儿):Shishou type and Beijing type.In the fourth chapter,we use the methods of the detailed illustration and the overall enumerate,retrieve the dialect material which could find,provides that Shishou dialect and Beijing dialect are not orphaned example.To a certain extent,they stand for two different dialect types in suffix.The fifth chapter is the conclusion which explains the insufficiency and the plans of research.
