| Paintings of Shanghai school, which began at Shanghai’s open port in late Qing, had experienced the time of absorbing and merging others in the early age, and then developed to be the one of the most important painting style in east China, even the whole country. When Republican period, the social surroundings accelerating the style to be mature, and it evolved from the mode of pure absorbing from other articles to both absorbing from others and radiating to others simultaneously. What is focused in t his dissertation is the spreading and propaganda of painting style of Shanghai school and its related effects on the others.The reason for the research is because of the inadequate spreading fact and affection of paintings of Shanghai school and lack of the reasons for the fact and affection in existing studies. Then, the research on the spreading facts and affection and related reasons were established, so were the research method and meaning.The premise for the research, the concept and characters of the time, should be described firstly. Then, the style’s specific form in Republican period should be established and listed. These contents are consisted of chapter 1. Chapter 2 aimed at the spreading and affection of painting style of Shanghai style in domestic art circles, listed as Beijing and Tianjin, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Lingnan, which were some large ones. Meanwhile, some small art circles which were affected would be mentioned as well to reveal the power and range of the style. The research method will focus on some main representative painters affected by Shanghai School style and their related activities and institutions, publication s and exhibitions to prove the spreading of the style. However,the discussion on Lingnan circle was different to the others, for it was offered a platform and condition for the activities and development for Lingnan artists, which was researched together with the fact of being affected.Chapter 3 aimed at the style’s spreading in oversea circles, mainly in Japan and Korea, which praised Wu Changshuo’s style highly, and listed the interactions between the artists in Shanghai and in Japan and Korea. Moreover, the style spread in the art circle of Southeast Asia, and it also had some propaganda in Europe and America area.The last chapter, which is the most important part of the paper, is to research the reasons for the style’s wide spreading. To conclude several items of conditions formed in the advanced time for the rapid progress in technology, culture and thinking fields, which benefited the spreading and affection to others, and they can be summarized as listed: firstly, convenient visits to some other places, from the artists of Shanghai style, who had immigration, and long or short time visits to some other places; Secondly, booming art organizations of painting style of Shanghai school in many places; Thirdly, analyzing the mature and developed art market in Shanghai to conclude the efforts of style spreading; Fourthly, numerous exhibitions of Shanghai school style appeared in Shanghai and other places and related reports from the media, combined with the real experience of the artist who succeeded in learning painting style of Shanghai school can be regarded as the one of the most important reasons of the spreading factors; Fifthly, the reason flourishing publishing & printing technologies can not be ignored for spreading factors as well; Finally, many new art institutions, of which most important ones aimed style of Shanghai school as their main style on Chinese painting education and traditional studios set in shanghai. Some items were independent, but some of these were linked with each other from the different points of views of different values. |
