Objective: To summarize professor Tong Yunhui’s academic thought of TCM bonesetting and his clinical experience in pediatric orthopaedics.Methods: A combined method of document theory research, clinical for diagnosis and clinical observation is employed to summarize my tutor, professor Tong’s academic thought of TCM bonesetting and his clinical experience in pediatric orthopaedics. In his 30 years of clinical research, my tutor has achieved abundant research results. But it still lacks a comprehensive research and promotion in his academic thought and systemic pectination on his academic origin. Therefore, I will collect professor Tong’s clinical diagnosis and treatment information as well as previous treatment and research data and sort out his academic venation and origin, then codify his clinical experience of TCM bonesetting comprehensively and better sum up, inherit and develop of his academic thought so as to inherit and apply the TCM bonesetting especially pediatric bonesetting into clinical using. And this research will be carried out from the following steps:1. Clear the academic origin of professor Tong YunhuiProfessor Tong Yunhui was graduated from Henan College of traditional Chinese Medicine in December 1982. Because of his outstanding result, he was assigned to Luoyang Osteopathy Hospital of Henan province and engaged in orthopedic clinical until now. Luoyang Osteopathy Hospital is the epitome of Pingle bonesetting academic thought and inherited and developed it as well. Research at this stage will start with document theory research, summarize the academic thoughts of renowned Chinese academic schools and their current situation of inheritance and analyze their academic characteristics respectively. Those academic schools are Fujian Lin bonesetting(represented by Lin Rugao), Beijing Liu bonesetting(represented by Liu Shoushan), Shanghai Shi bonesetting(represented by Shi Xiaoshan and Shi Yangshan), Liaoning Su bonesetting(represented by Su Yuxin) and Hubei Li bonesetting(represented by Li Tongsheng). Then it will review the initiation, development and maturation of Pingle bonesetting academic thought to clear the academic origin of professor Tong Yunhui.2 Summarize professor Tong’s academic thought and clinical experienceResearch at this stage will adopt a method which combines document theory research and clinical for diagnosis.First of all, it will review professor Tong’s learning experience and his way to fame. From entering Henan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine to study Chinese medicine and classic work to come to Luoyang Osteopathy Hospital following a famous teacher to study TCM bonesetting; from studying pediatric orthopaedics in Tianjin Hospital to become a medical technology leader in Luoyang Osteopathy Hospital, he became a famous doctor through his unremitting efforts. It also analyzes his medical technology development to sort out his academic venation.Secondly, from studying with professor Tong in 3 years, this research will study Tong’s diagnostic idea of Chinese medicine orthopedic disease, his technology in traditional TCM bonesetting and surgery and his three dialectical drug administering characteristics. Then it will sum up his TCM bonesetting thought.Lastly, it will summarize his clinical experience in pediatric orthopaedics, record his treatment experience and clinical cases including pediatric calcaneal fracture, humeral supracondylar fracture of children, old dislocation of radial head in children, developmental dislocation of the hip and congenital coxa varus.3 Observe the clinic effect by using professor Tong’s clinical experience in pediatric orthopedics.This research will observe the clinic effect by using Tong’s modified extracutaneous-tension fixation in the treatment of humeral supracondylar fracture. And then compare it with the traditional manual reduction splintage treatment in Luoyang Osteopathy Hospital from the lost motion range of the carrying angle and the elbow as well as the comprehensive function assessment of elbow joint. By this way, we can consider the advantage and disadvantage of the two methods and to explore the academic succession direction of the integrated traditional TCM bonesetting technology and modern orthopaedic technique.69 orthopedic patients who meet the standard( according to Gartland classification, they are type Ⅱand type Ⅲ.) would be selected in Luoyang Osteopathy Hospital and Third Affiliated Hospital of Henan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine from August 2012 to August 2015. In accordance with the time sequence and the random number table, those patients were divided into treatment group(n=36) and control group(n=33).The treatment group was treated with professor Tong’s modified extracutaneous-tension fixation in the treatment of humeral supracondylar fracture, while the control group was treated in manual reduction splintage treatment. Then observe their clinical effect and statistically analyze the results.On two groups of cases for 6 months to 2 years follow-up, an average of 7.8 months. Including follow-up treatment group 34 cases(36 cases, 2 cases fall off), the control group 32 cases received follow-up follow-up(33 cases, 1 case fall off).By clinical examination fracture in March all achieve bony healing, treatment group with no cases of infection, no serious complications occurred. By chi-square analysis, P < 0.05, the difference was statistically significant, six months after the treatment group significantly better than control group in terms of elbow comprehensive functional assessment.Achievements: This research summed up the social origin and influence factors of professor Tong’s academic thought and clinical experience from his work experience, learning attitude and medical ethics. It also explored Tong’s academic thought in diagnoses and treatment of Chinese medicine orthopedic disease in detail and summarized his pediatric orthopaedic clinical treatment experience such as in congenital coxa varus and pediatric calcaneal fracture. This research covered Tong’s important academic thought and clinical experience, which have certain reference and application values in guiding clinical diagnosis and treatment.Conclusion: Through inheriting Luoyang Pengle bonesetting academic thought and studying Chinese and western medicine treatment technology with famous teachers, professor Tong formed his own TCM bonesetting thought. And we should carry forward our traditional TCM bonesetting technology on the basis of learning professor Tong’s clinical experience, inheriting his academic thought and combining it with modern medical technology.
