Objective:To investigate the effects of electro acupuncture combined with motor imagery therapy on the motor function and the activity of daily living in patients with hemiplegia cerebral infarction.Methods:After assessment with Kinesthetic and visual imagery questionnaire,90 patients with hemiplegic cerebral infarction were randomly into three groups:electro acupuncture group,combination group and rehabilitation group,30 patients per group.All patients were treated with routine rehabilitation training.In electro acupuncture group patients were treated with electro acupuncture therapy additionally.In combination group patients were treated with electro acupuncture and special motor imagery therapy additionally.All patients were assessed with Brunnstrom assessment and Barthel Index before and after 4-week treatment.Results:After 4 weeks treatment in three groups the scores of Barthel and Brunnstrom improved significantly compared with before treatment.After 4-week treatment,the scores in electro acupuncture group and combination group increased significantly compared with rehabilitation group,the scores of lower limb in Brunnstrom in combination group increased significantly compared with electro acupuncture group and rehabilitation group.Conclusion:Electro acupuncture combined with special motor imagery therapy can significantly improve the motor function and the activity of daily living in hemiplegic cerebral infarction patients.
