An Empirical Study On Agglomeration Effect And Economic Influence Of Beijing Cultural And Creative Industry

The 21 st century is the century of knowledge and creative economy.As a collection of culture,knowledge,creativity,the cultural creative industries is becoming one of the leading industries in the world economy.Especially for China,the development of cultural and creative industry would play an important role in its transition process,while promoting economic growth mode transforming from resource-intensive and labor-intensive production to knowledge-technology-intensive,high-value-added economy.This article mainly focuses on the development of the cultural and creative industry of Beijing.After assessing the development status of the cultural creative industries of Beijing,and estimating the agglomeration effect and its influence on economy development,some useful suggestions are provided for future development of the cultural and creative industry.Firstly,in the qualitative research sections,the connotation and characteristic of the cultural and creative industry is discussed,and the development path of cultural and creative industry is reviewed.In addition,an in-depth survey is carried out in Beijing.The results reveal the rapid development momentum of the Beijing cultural creative industry in recent year,and proved that Beijing is the absolute leading city of the cultural creative industry.Of course,there are also some development-problems needed to be noted by the government.Secondly,on the basis of qualitative analysis,statistical and econometric analysis methods are further applied to empirically study and assess the cultural and creative industry.The empirical study is mainly in three aspects:(1)measurement of agglomeration degree of the culture creative industry,and estimation of the economic effect agglomeration;(2)the evaluation and comparison of industrial competitiveness of Beijing and other developed cities;(3)investigation of the influence of the cultural creative industry development on regional economy.The details are as follows:In the first part of empirical study,several widely-used indexes such as location quotient(LQ),and the coefficient of Hoover are applied to measure and evaluate the agglomeration degree of Cultural and Creative Industry in Beijing and other developed cities.By comparison,the result reveals that Beijing has great advantage in cultural and creative industry,due to its historical and cultural background and economic priority.Furthermore,based on a generalized Cobb-Douglas production function,a regression model is set up to estimate the agglomeration effect of the cultural and creative industry.The result shows that clustering development canimprove the industrial production technology(productivity)due to the economy of scale and the spill-over effect in the cluster districts.Finally,significant role of human capital accumulation,and technology improvement is also confirmed.In the second part,five primary index and 15 secondary indicators are set up,according to industrial competitiveness theory and Chinese industrial characteristics.By applying method of multivariate statistical analysis – factor analysis,combined with statistic data,this part comprehensively assesses the competitiveness level of Beijing cultural creative industry and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of its development in the five main aspects.In the last empirical study section,the contribution of Cultrual and Creative Industry to regional economy development is discussed.The industrial analysis(input-output analysis)is firstly implemented,to evaluate the industry conjunction and industry affection between Beijing Cultural and Creative industry and other industries.Furthermore,a Cobb-Douglas economic growth model is established to study how and to which extent the cultural and creative industry would influence the regional economy development.In the model,the development of the cultural and creative industry is regarded as a kind of accumulation of culture and knowledge capital and plays the role as one of inputs(the other two inputs are physical capital and labor)of economic growth process.The result confirms that the cultural and creative industry development has played an important role in promoting the economic growth.In the end,a brief conclusion of this article is presented,drawing a whole picture of the development situation and exited problems of the culture creative industry of Beijing.Accordingly,several policy proposals for future improvement of cultural and creative industry are provided.
