| As the main constraints of sustainable development, the issue of climate change has become the common focus of all countries. All countries in the world are both worried about the catastrophe brought by global warming and also concerned about the adverse economic effect caused by carbon emission reduction.Carbon productivity, which means economic output per carbon emissions. It is not only concerned with economic growth but also committed to reducing carbon emissions, which meets the most basic requirements for low-carbon development.Boosting carbon productivity is far-reaching for China, which is a big carbon-emitting country.Since 2010,the world economy has entered a period of profound transformation and adjustment after the international financial crisis. The developed countries have been engaged in technological innovation vigorously. They have locked in the high-end manufacturing sectors firmly and urged the domestic manufacturing industry to return, which has widened the gap between China and developed countries in high technology and also weakened China’s competitive advantages in undertaking international industrial transfer. At the same time,China’s economic development has entered a new stage of medium-high speed growth, and economic driving force has shifted from traditional production factors such as capital and labor to emerging production factors such as technology, knowledge and information. In the dual role of the international and domestic economic environment,China’s industrial upgrading is imminent.Industrial upgrading has optimized the allocation of resources for production factors, improved the technological level, output efficiency, and added value of products. It is important to transform current economic development mode in China, and it is also a research hot spot of China’s industrial economics.Industrial upgrading includes multiple forms of expression, such as industrial upgrading in structure and upgrading in global value chain and so on.However, previous studies have neglected the theoretical induction of its manifestations. Therefore, this paper focuses on the rational classification of industrial upgrading and on the influence of different forms of industrial upgrading on carbon productivity.Firstly, according to the development stage of the international division of labor theory, industrial upgrading is divided into three forms:industrial upgrading in structure, industrial upgrading in competitiveness, and upgrading in global value chain. The connotation of three forms of industrial upgrading and their relationship are analyzed, and the concept and realization conditions of carbon productivity are summarized.Three action paths to impact of industrial upgrading on carbon productivity are elaborated.Secondly, from perspectives of different industrial upgrading, some empirical studies of the impact of industrial upgrading on carbon productivity under corresponding perspective is conducted.Specifically,Durbin model is used to study the spatial impact of the upgrading of industrial structure on carbon productivity in 30 provinces in China. The effect of industrial upgrading in competitiveness on carbon productivity is empirically studied using dual-fixed effect model. The coordinated development relationship between global value chain division and carbon productivity is analyzed using the coupling coordination index. Finally, some realization paths of industrial upgrading to promote carbon productivity are proposed from the basic principles, development ideas and countermeasures. |
