| The main purpose of this study is to describe and review the Injury Prevention Strength & Conditioning Theory for basketball athletes. The major point in regard to this theory is how to be more efficient in designing and implementing effective injury prevention strategies. The strength & conditioning program by adopting this theory, which is based on current strength & conditioning education, can reduce the risk for athletic injuries and extend the length of a player’s professional career. Also,by adopting this theory we are assisting these athletes with improving their athletic performance.According to the article the research analysis concentrated on the following areas: 1.Describing current strength & conditioning theories allowing insight for future strategies;2.Systematic introduction of strength & conditioning assessments as well as program planning with a specific focus to general strength characteristics.Based on these studies, the author indicated the importance of injury prevention strength & conditioning theory. The author also emphasized the introduction to the following areas: development of basketball in China and overseas;development of a strength & conditioning team;and a sports medicine team to specialize in basketball related sports injuries. This includes a specific focus on how the current injury prevention program is operating and how much time is required for injury rehabilitation within different post-injury phases. The author used a strength & conditioning knowledge questionnaire to assess attitudes about strength & conditioning from Chinese athletes whose competition level was at least beyond two levels.By analyzing the results of the questionnaire, the author concluded that the current status of strength & conditioning programs coupled with the injuries commonly associated with basketball players in China and overseas demonstrates a need for an injury prevention strength & conditioning theory. At the same time, the author explored 8 different physical evaluation norms and a detailed explanation of the application of these norms so that strength coaches can adapt to form their own training programs. This paper focused on 20 Chinese basketball athletes(above level 2)who suffered sports related injuries who were selected as the study group. For this study, the researcher adopted injury prevention strength & conditioning theory as a guideline. He then specifically designed a training program based on the specific injury sites and specific training requirements of the sport.During the study data was recorded the final results were examined. The findings were that training philosophies between China and overseas did not have a fundamental difference. However, possibly because of differing sociocultural standards there is a difference. This could play a significant role in why there are inefficiencies in our strength & conditioning programs including: evaluation standards, training requirements, training load assessment, standard operation, rehabilitation, and nutrition.According to findings from the questionnaire Chinese coaches and athletes have a good understanding of the importance of strength & conditioning. However, they do not pay enough attention towards this during their basketball playing seasons.According to research on the number of full time strength coaches compared to the number of professional basketball coaches is only 23.81% of all coaches on all levels of sports teams. Also, only 25.4% of all levels of sports teams have a certified athletic trainer.A study on basketball injuries shows that there were 67 documented injury cases for basketball athletes within a year. This means 3.35 cases per athlete for the year. The injury rate is 2.48 cases per 1000 training hours. The majority of injuries are chronic injuries, and injury sites were most commonly for lower extremities, low back and knee. The highest frequency of injury happens during July,August and September each year which coincides with the period of high volumes of practice playing with reduced focus on strength & conditioning. We can infer that a well-developed strength & conditioning program can assist in reducing the injury risk for basketball players.Based on study results,we still need to improve the following: training organization, evaluation standard, training plan and training requirement. We also need to put more attention to injury rehabilitation as well as injury prevention. That main purpose of this paper is to encourage adopting injury prevention training theory to help our strength & conditioning coaches in developing an organized, efficient training program. This can improve our athletic performance and reduce their risk of injury in our basketball athletes. There were some restrictions noticed regarding the format of the questionnaire that the author utilized. We are seeking a more standardized and more accurate target within the questionnaire format.Even though according to the study results there has been progress made compared to the past, further research is needed to improve the depth of the study utilizing more affluent infrastructure resources.More data collection and a longer-term study should be applied in order to investigate the internal and external association between different factors especially in an injury prevention training program. We are still not able to confirm the internal relationship between different evaluation variables,so we will need a more specific study and data analysis to associate with more of the basketball population to confirm the reliability and efficacy of our theory in the future. |
