| Objective.Magnetically Guided capsule endoscopy has been widely used in adults, but it is rarely used in children. This study is intended to analysis the data of pediatric patients who had undergone MGCE in our hospital retrospectively,to clarify the value of MGCE in pediatric patients.Methods.All pediatric patients who underwent MGCE in our hospital from April 2015 to October 2018 were included in the study. All data were collected and analysed.Results.A total of 220 patients and 238 examinations were included in the statistics;122 males underwent 138 examinations and 98 females underwent 100 examinations. In 86.9%,72.9%,88.8%,86.0%,95.8% and 100.0% of the examinations respectively,no less than 80% of the mucosa in cardia, fundus, body, angulus, antrum and pylorus was visualized;and in 100.0%,77.4%,92.1%,99.5%,99.5%,and 100.0% of the examinations, the cleanliness of cardia, fundus, body, angulus, antrum and pylorus was satisfactory. Both mucosal visualization and cleanliness of the distal part of gastric cavity were better than the proximal part.Bile reflux affected the cleanliness of the body(p < 0.05).The mean gastric operation time was 10.75 minutes. The median gastric transit time was 40.8 minutes, and the median small bowel transit time was 241.3 minutes. The small bowel completion rate was 91.9%,which was significantly higher in patients with gastric transit time <2 hours than patients with gastric transit time ≥2 hours(p < 0.05),and also significantly higher in male patients than female patients(p < 0.05).The lesion detection rates of stomach, duodenum and jejuno-ileum were 19.1%,8.1% and 26.8%,respectively.The most common findings were hyperemia and exudative gastritis, duodenal ulcer and Crohn’s disease.MGCE was well tolerated in pediatric patients, and no complications or adverse events such as capsule retention occurred.Conclusion.The cleanliness and visualization of gastric cavity in pediatric patients are satisfactory, and the completion rate of small bowel is high. There is no complications or adverse events occurred.MGCE is a feasible, effective and safe way to detect both gastric cavity and small bowel in children. |
