Before the 19th century,Malaya has yet to develop into a complete economy.Malaya was mainly in the family of small peasant economy that is a self-sufficient economic society. It is noteworthy that the modern economic development started during the British colonial in Malay Peninsula. The British expand their forces to the Malay Peninsula throughout the colonized territory, and systematically divided the three administrative regions. The three are Straits Settlements;,The Federated Malay States and Unfederated Malay States. It is divided to effectively control the land.At that time, the British colonial government attaches great importance to Malaya’s economic infrastructure and actively promote the local transport industry, farming, tin mining and manufacturing development. The British colonial government has sought to helping the Malay Peninsula to modernize economic development, and promoting the development of a large number of workers. This has resulted in a dramatic increase in the population of Malaya. In the British colonial period, the population of Malaya was mainly composed of Chinese,Malay and Indians. In order to strengthen the control of national workers, the British colonists in the regional and non-regional distinction between the various races has affected the economic development of all ethnic groups. This has led to economic differences between the various ethnic groups.Under the influence of the British government’s "divide and rule" policy, the Malays are mainly concentrated in the countryside, engaged in agricultural production with natural nature, such as rice, vegetables, fuits and other cultivation;Indians mainly to labor. While, the rest of the work is less involved in the various types of commercial activities, regardless of the sale of Western industrial products, the acquisition of local produce, agriculture and tin production. All can be found in the traces of Chinese businessmen. However, with the Malaysian population surge, the demand for rice increased. But the Malayan rice industry has long been not the West colonial or some Malay state officials attention. To promote everything Rice-related economic activities are lagging behind and food which is in short supply is particularly urgent.Local Malay rice cultivation area is small. This makes the domestic rice production only enough for the Malay social consumption. Most of the other ethnic groups have to rely mainly on imported rice from other supply. For the consumption of imported rice groups to the majority of Chinese and Indians, the rise is mainly distributed in tin mines and agricultural plantations. The problem of food is not properly addressed, making the local tin miners and agricultural plantation owners attach great importance to the shortage of rice production in Malaya. As a result, some Chinese businessmen,by virtue of the geographical advantages of Malaya and the country that is rich in rice, have imported rice from Siam,Myanmar and Saigon to solve the food problem of laborers. After the mid-late 19th century, the British colonial government began to realize that the import of rice is not the best way to solve the food supply of Malayan workers. It is only to improve the production of local rice in Malaya and self-sufficient model to achieve food security stock. Therefore,in 1880 or so,the British colonial government and the various Malayan rulers has actively promote the development of rice farming, the rice industry as a good opportunity for development and investment to the Chinese businessmen and Malaya to invest in modern rice mill. For the improvement of Malaya rice technology, the various regions have set up a modern rice mill. With the growing size of the rice mill, the Malayan rice trade has formed a certain influence. It was Malaya most important economic lifeline. In order to grasp the powerful business opportunities, the Chinese businessmen takes advantage of the Western rice machinery.Improving the quality of rice and increase the rate of rice.As the Western rice machinery has brought considerable economic benefits,it soon attracted more Chinese businessmen in various regions of Malaya to invest in rice plant.More and more introduction of advanced rice technology is brought in.Before the mid-19th century to World War Ⅱ,the Chinese people in the Malayan rice industry has developed glorious period.Chinese businessmen succeeded in establishing a commercial network in favor of Chinese rice mills in the Malayan rice market.Prompting the Chinese rice industry to dominate during that time.Until the outbreak of the Second World War,the Chinese businessmen in the rice industry couldn’t monopolize the situation and the rise industry under the destruction of the Japanese was interrupted by Japanese. In the case of Second World War,rice cultivation was almost monopolized by the Malay for a long time.According to Chinese businessmen that want to succeed in the rice industry, the primary problem is the source of rice. How can Chinese businessmen ensure long-term supply of Malay farmers to supply rice? And how Chinese businessmen can achieve extraordinary achievements in the Malayan rice industry in a short time is worthy of further study. Therefore, this paper explores the position and role of the Chinese in the Malayan’s rice milling as the basic food for thought.Referring to the economic development of Malaya, the situation of Chinese immigrants, the development of rice industry, the traditional rice workshop and the transformation of modern rice mills to discuss the history of the Chinese in the Malayan rice industry before World War Ⅱ.As for the study period of this paper, the period was locked in the 1980s and before World War Ⅱ to explore the history of the Chinese people in the Malayan rice industry before World War Ⅱ.It was to discover the factors to promote the success of the Chinese in Malaya Rice mills to obtain a dominant position.
