This translation report is based on the author’s translation practice of the original Brown Rice and White rice.Associated with the content of the source text,the author hopes that this research can not only offer reference to other food sci-tech texts translation,but can spread the benefits of brown rice to the readers and raise people’s interest in the whole grain diet.In order to convey the original information more accurately,the author refers to a large number of parallel texts in the process of translation.And during the process,the author finds that affected by the factors such as differences in Chinese and English language and cultures,different levels of translators and others,the translation quality of food sci-tech texts varies greatly.In response to this,guided by Newmark’s Text Type Theory,this article uses the method of case analysis to discover the translation skills of food sci-tech texts.It first concludes the linguistic features of the text,including the use of large amount of terms,attributive clauses and passive sentences,etc.To deal with these linguistic phenomena,different translation techniques are employed.The study indicates that Newmark’s Text Type Theory especially the communicative translation theory has strong applicability to the translation of food sci-tech texts.By using different translation methods,such as non-translation,annotation,conversion,addition,division,sequencing,reversing and so on,the translation can better accord with Chinese expression habits and satisfy the reading requirements of the target audiences.
