Wu Guandai is a famous painting living from the late Qing dynasty to the early Republic.This article studies Mr.Wu’ s life and his woks mainly from three aspects:his whole life,his art style and the historical position in the Chinese painting history and presents some views.Firstly,I did a lot of detailed and textual research work about Wu Guandai and got.a lot of first.-hand new information that makes his life more complete and full.The emphasis talked in the former introductions and researchs in the previous works is more on his art style analysis but lack of his life experience.In short,Compared with the analysis on a large number of his painting style,the existing words on his life is short and simple,which causing his personal image incomplete and indistinct,and the existing words presented in the previous works are similar and most copied each other’ s ideas and materials.Accordingly,I spent a lot of time studying Mr.Wu’ s traveling and painting activities in Wuxi,Beiping,Shanghai and trying to restore his figure as colorful,solid,visual,and full of sentiments.In order to represent that,I made a lot of efforts to accessing to many valuable new data,for example,"the community of silent poetry" he ever took part in in Beiping in the fourth chapter," the first.National Art Exhibition" held in Shanghai,and some exhibitions held in the United States and Japan,which he participated in fifth chapter.He was invited to teach in Beiping by Xu Beihong who was Dean of Beiping Art College,but Illness stopped him.I also found another Wu ’s "four beauty album",which was not ever recorded and clarify the fact that Wu Guandai was the president of the community of Xishan Painting and Calligraphy.In his life,Lian Quan is an important character.The sixth section of the first chapter describes the relationship between Wu and Lian Quan from a funding perspective and the paper also studies the influences on an artist coming from collectors and art patron from three aspects.Secondly,I has engaged in the practice of painting for a long time.This paper analyzes and compares the formation and development.of Wu’s art style from the angle of individual.The second chapter is the main point of this chapter.Compared with many Wu’ s pictures,I study his art style evolvement including Wuxi mentoring relationship,Beiping art learning and the influences from Shanghai style.from three aspects of art history.By comparison of specific paintings from Hai style,Zhe style,Wumen style and Yangzhou style,I want to find the trail of his art style evolvement.I put.focuses on the comparison of Wu and Shi Tao’s paintings in the second section of this chapter in order to find the correlation and similarities and differences between the them and give my point that his painting is base on Wen Zhengming and Shen zhuo and also learned from Four Wangs and Ren Bonian.I also made detailed records of his imitating the ancients in his painting by statistics,and make a conclusion about his painting origin.In the calligraphy section,I definite the main vein of his calligraphy is Tie,then I insist and adjustment of the researches on his calligraphy style under the background of Stele Theory.Thirdly,I analysis his position in modern times.This chapter focuses on the saying that he is "the resurrection of Shi Tao".I put Wu under the background of the Trends of the study on Shi Tao to recognize its importance.Some of the problems are discussed,such as Wu is the modern pioneer theory to study Shi Tao,and say that Wu Guandai was lack of learning from natural.In the third section,I try to seek the answer of his decline on contemporary time and hopes to objectively judge his position and influence in the late Qing Dynasty,the Republic of China and the contemporary time.Finally,the annex lists and discusses the extracts and rearrangement from the works.Log the existing paintings and classify them and supplement the important works omitted.The theory of paintingis based on the above I do.The other works in addition to his painting set.is mostly disordered and scattered,but they are indispensable to Wu Guandai.Those auctioned on online or in the hands of collectors are undoubtedly authentic through my carefully research,such as a painting cooperated by Wu Guandai and Gu Linshi.This work is of great historical significance to his friends’ circle.I find too many works like above.Those works and their writing time and writing locations are benefit of my examining Wu Guandai from the broad historical,cultural background and the angle of art.
