| World life is becoming more global,interconnected,and cross-border mobility;consequently,was derived borderless career opportunity.Those phenomenon makes it increasingly important for scholars and professionals to get new skills and practices in international settings.On the other hands,difficulty on re-adaptation when returning to the home country is a critical problem for returnee.This research aims are(1)to contribute the better understanding of reentry adjustment in Indonesian returnee and(2)to explore the Indonesian returnees profile is related to their future career and professional life.To examine the reentry adjustment and career planning for professional life in Indonesian returnees,this research employed a mixed-methods research design with sequential exploratory strategy,that ’mixing’ of both qualitative and quantitative in a single research study.In study one,fifty-five Indonesian returnees participate in the exploratory study using semi-structured face-to-face interview(n = 3)and qualitative descriptive design using open-ended online questionnaire(n = 52).The results revealed that reentry is a complexity challenge for returnees and difficulty on re-adaptation when returning to the home country is a critical problem for Indonesian returnee.Furthermore,this study also raises a number of factors related to difficulty on reentry adjustment:re-adaptation problems,personal transformation,expectation-reality gap,career future orientation,job embeddedness,and turnover intention.The finding of this exploratory study used as basis to develop or inform to the next quantitative study to investigate more deeply the phenomenon of reentry adjustment in Indonesian returnee.Study 2 focuses on the process of participation in overseas activities and the impact of skills development on cultural identity changes,as well as the impact on the reentry adjustment.The results of a questionnaire survey of 162 returnees revealed that the participation of foreigners in foreign countries and the perception of skills development have a significant impact on their cultural identity,which further strengthens the effect of their return to employment.Study three examines the effect of individual change and time dimension on successfulness in reentry adjustment process of 182 Indonesian returnees.The results showed that the returnees with the characteristics of younger age,female gender,single status,and low education level will be associated with more repatriation difficulty.In line with study one,cultural identity change shows an effective mediator between activities and skills that returnees’ gained while in overseas to the process of reentry adjustment.The finding of study two and study three emphasizes that the high level of difficulty in reentry adjustment is not caused by what happens when a sojourner is in abroad,but more affected by the condition taking place after they return to Indonesia.In other words,host country variables do not affect the reentry adjustment process.Study four addressing how activity during in overseas,along with perceived enhance and newly skills affects career planning and professional identity of Indonesian returnees(n = 162).This study indicated that the high activity when in overseas is associated with higher level of returnees,professional identity and their career future orientation via perceived enhance and newly skills as mediator.Study five examine how reentry adjustment and sense of professional identity of Indonesian returnees(n = 182)are related to career adaptability,career optimism,and returnees’ knowledge about future career.The result of this study reported that sense of professional identity as an effective mediator the relationship between reentry adjustment and career adaptability,career optimism,and perceived knowledge of future career.The result on study four and study five confirm that the experiences of returnees while in overseas and smooth on reentry adjustment process impact on their professional identity and career future orientation.Although Indonesian returnee feels difficult to re-adaptation in the home country,they can adapt very well and optimistic on their future career.Study six addressing how difficulty in reentry adjustment,along with perceived professional identity affect returnees’(n = 178)job embeddedness and intention to leave job.The result of this this study indicate that as a professional talent,Indonesian returnees feel a part,have strong ties,and pleased belong to their profession,but it was not exactly in line with their commitment to their current job or organization.These six research investigations contribute to the further understanding the complexity of reentry adjustment process,especially in Indonesian returnees,that has not been repoted in the past.The results of this study highlight the role of training and career development planning for returnees in their employment adjustments and their intention to leave.Organizational commitment and nationalism are important contents for the returnees to train before and after returning to the home country.Companies or organizations must assess the needs of their global talent to develop practices and professionalism to meet the goals and aspirations of returnees.This is a "smart"solution that allows returnees to integrate into their current work and minimize their current job turnover. |
