A Study Of The Chronicles Of Past Years In The Chronicles Of Ancient Ross

Russian chronicle,a literature genre which records historical events of Russian medieval chronology,is an important historical record of Russian history.Covering all aspects of writing,literature,history and culture,it is one of the most important documents fully reflecting the ancient history.As one of the oldest compilation chronicles,Povest Vremennykh Let(PVL)is not one chronicle at usual sense or a simple historical documents,but rather the ancient Russia encyclopedia to understand ancient Russia,and the cornerstone to explore the development of ancient Russian history.Since the beginning of the 18th century,PVL has become the focus of Western scholars and Russian historians and philologists.If we say that the research of chronicles is the beginning of the Russian history discipline,then the research of PVL is the starting point of the chronicle research.Therefore,carrying out PVL research has become an important way to understand the development process of the Russian state,and Russian national culture and history.PVL research has not only made it possible to restore the true face of the history' of ancient Russia,but also has provided the historical basis to re-examine the issue of Russia's early history and the solution of current Russian nationality problems.Special academic research on PVL is very rare in China.Instead most existing research work is focused on translation of its text and notes.Although translation works usually includes some research to understand the content,they are different from special academic research.Moreover,some research works,obtained from other research work,has certain limitations.PVL has been selected as the main content of this study,not only to strengthen the domestic academic research work in Russia and the Russian chronicle of ancient literature,but also to establish the foundation for other related research on the early history of Russia.The study referenced the domestic and foreign related academic research and adopted research methods of historical analysis.Drawing on the theory and methods of philology,linguistics and other disciplines,this study experimented to carry out research work from multiple angles of text,language,historical documents and historical form and so on.The thesis consisted of an introduction,five chapters and a conclusion.The introduction described the current situation of academic research on PVL,as well as the purpose,significance,innovation and shortcomings of the research.The first chapter was made of two parts:one part clarified basic concepts of relevant historical documents and chronicle with an analysis of development process and research features;the other part introduced PVL and its significance among Russian chronicles.This chapter laid the foundation for the following research.The Second chapter was focused on the textual research of PVL.Based on the textual research method,the study included the following contents:differentiating concepts of "philology" and "textual research";combing the relevant authors and versions,analyzing the reasons of compilation,explaining the textual layers and exploring the textual form of PVL.The third chapter studied the textual language of PVL.In the analysis of compilation features and stylistic language of PVL,the writing habits and vocabulary norms embodied in PVL were inquired.The chapter also sorted out the dispute on the formation of the Russian language and the writing origin of East Slavic ethnic groups,leading to further clarification of the formation and development of the standard language of the ancient Russian era.The fourth chapter took folklore as the research object.The selection of two folk tales were based on an analysis and summary of research work of oral folklore in chronicles.The two folk tales are related to East Slavic ethnic group and origin of Russian state respectively.The chapter not only explained historic analogy,realistic prototype and cultural spirit of the two folk tales,but also analyzed through aspects of compilation thoughts,realistic origin and social causes.In addition,the paper restored the historic conditions of East Slavic ethnic group and early Russian society,and provided realistic foundation of exploring the origin of all kinds of social phenomenons of ancient Russia.The fifth chapter studied calendar and annals system of PVL.The paper combed the gradual evolution of Russian calendar.Furthermore,it analyzed the complicated and varied calendar and the approach of recording annals.Clarified and analyzed major methods of annals,finally explained the significance of ch ronological recording in PVL.Conclusion in the last chapter summarized the main ideas and theories of the above five parts,and emphasized meaning and value of PVL research work.
