China is experiencing the economic transformation.High level human captial is necessary to complet the transformation. In all of the various programs that promoting the level of human capital, the investments on student health deserve more attention than others.Because,on the one hand, the earlier the investment implements, the higher the rates of return on human capital will be;on the other hand, the investment on student health will not only enhance the accumulation of health human capital, but enhance the accumulation of education human capital. There are a large number of studies that have focused on student physical health and explored lots of effective methods to improve student physical health. However, there are little studies that ever focus on student psychological health which also act an import role on the economic development. In addition, the existing studies on student psychological health always adopted psychotherapy as the main way to improve student psychological health, however, psychotherapy is not that easy to cover all the children in the nation. This paper proceeds fromm development economics and health economics to evaluate the impact of health interventions on student psychological anxity by using the method of randomized controlled trials. The purpose of this paper is to provide a basis for the health investment so that the country can enhance the accumulation of human capital. There are lots of health interventions which is easy to implement in the local education system and can cover all the students, which can overcome the drawbacks of psychotherapies. The implementation of these health interventions do not need scarce resources(eg.psychologists),but also can improve student academic performance to meet the reqirement of local education system. However, the existing studies always only focus on the impact of health interventions on student physical health and academic performance, and little of them further analyze the impact of health interventions on student psychological health. The paper examines the following questions:What is the rate of anxiety disorder among primary and junior high students? What personal and parental characteristics can impact student anxiety status?Whether or not health interventions can alleviate student anxiety? What is the mechanism that health interventions alleviate student anxiety? In all of the health interventions, which one has the highest cost-effectiveness and is the best choice for health investment on students. In order to answer above questions, the paper mainly takes two approaches.Firstly, the paper reviews the literature on health interventions to analyze the necessity and feasibility to conduct health interventions. And then, the paper aggregats the data from eight randomized controlled trials. All health interventions in the eight trials are independent with potential outcome variables, which effectively solve the endogenous problem. The meta-dataset contrain 17,756 primary and junior high school students from 578 schools in 53 counties in Qinghai,Shaanxi,Gansu,Ningxia,Jiangsu and Shanghai.Using the large-scale meta-dataset,the paper firstly analyzes the prevalence and correlate factors of anxiety among students. The results show that 8%of the sample students are suffering anxiety disorder.56%of the sample students show at least one type of anxiety symptoms. In general, students in poor counties are more anxious.Girls, boarding students, students whose father are not at home, low academic achieving students are more anxious than boys,non-boarding students, students whose father are at home, high academi achieving students. After analyzing the prevalence and correlation of anxiety, the paper mainly assess the impact of health interventions on student anxiety by taking advantage of randomized controlled trials. The results of experiments show that glasses interventions and nutrition interventions can significantly alleviate student anxiety, while the effect of health information is not significant. The results also suggest that, rather than the glasses and nutrition interventions affecting academic performance, which affects anxiety, the two treatments are affecting both outcomes separately but simultaneously.Glasses interventions can alleviate the total anxiety by affecting subject body anxiety, impulsiveness tendency, loneness tendency, and sensitivity tendency, through not their learning anxiety.Nutrition interventions can alleviate the total anxiety by affecting subject body anxiety and impulsiveness tendency.Basing on the impact of health interventions, the paper also analyzes the cost-effectiveness in order to provide evidence for developing health investment to enhance the accumulation of human capital. The results show that nutrition interventions are the most cost-effective in all the three health interventions, and then glasses interventions are the second cost-effective,however,the information interventions are not cost-effective since they cannot have significant impact on student anxiety and academic performance.According to these results, the paper suggests that the government should pay more attention on student mental health, especially student anxiety problem, while enhancing the accumulation of human capital. The government also should gradually adopt glasses interventions and nutrition intervenitons as the way to enhace human capital, especially nutrition, interventions—the most cost-effective interventions. This paper has three significant innovations.Firstly, the paper propose a new method to alleviate student anxiety by combining the knowledge of several disciplinary.Traditionally, psychological problems are solved by psychological meghods. This paper explains the economic value of solving psychological problem by using the theory of development economics, and analyzes the impact of health interventions on student anxiety by using the theory of health economics.Secondly, the paper takes adavantage of the randomized controlled trials in experimental economics so that we can assess the impact of health interventions more accurately.Randomized controlled trials is becoming more and more popular in economic researches, and articles using the method of randomized controlled trials keep being published on the top journals every year. However, there is little studies that ever used this method in China.Basing on the results of random controlled trials, the paper further conducts cost-effectiveness analysis to evaluate the investment value of each of the health interventions.Thirdly, the paper uses the national representative and high-quality data to study the problem of anxiety. There is almost no more comprehensive data in China than this.
