Abstract/Summary:
The problem. The purpose of the study was to present Family Fables Workbook (FFW), a proposed clinical tool for counseling couples based on a constructivism theory that utilized a narrative therapeutic approach.;Method. The method of the study was a theoretical critical review of the literature in the five main schools of constructivism, integrated for the purpose of providing a theoretical model and therapeutic methodology as a foundation for the construction of FFW.;The study examined 549 books and journal articles, the majority from 1990 to 1998, which offered a comprehensive scope of clinically relevant material on constructivism theory, narrative therapy and clinical tool construction and use.;Results. Objectivism and the five major schools of Constructivism's ontological, epistemological, and hermeneutical stance were reviewed with regard to their theoretical and therapeutic orientation on the nature of reality, the purpose of language, and the process of growth and change. Seminal theorists and therapists backgrounds and resultant contributions was reviewed.;The results of the study were utilized for the conception, construction and use of FFW. The potential for construction of similar clinical tools based on a constructivism theoretical stance and a narrative methodology was also noted.
