Abstract/Summary:
Thermodynamic, kinetic, and hydrodynamic analyses of the gasification of coal water slurry fuels in a circulating fluidized bed gasifier were conducted. This device, which consists of a circulating fluidized bed and a cyclone combustor, is expected to convert coal into gaseous fuel in an efficient and environmentally acceptable manner. Recent development of integrated heat engine systems, which use the coal-derived gas to power turbines, motivated the construction of this unique gasifier.; A three-level approach was used in the analysis, moving from the simplest to the more complicated: thermodynamic equilibrium analysis, kinetic analysis, and hydrodynamic and kinetic analysis. The thermodynamic analysis was conducted assuming operation under conditions of equilibrium. The kinetic analysis was conducted for a given unit with feed rates of materials obtained from the thermodynamic analysis. The hydrodynamic analysis was conducted for the unit with feed rates of materials and circulation rates of solids obtained from the thermodynamic and kinetic analyses, respectively. Several models of the chemical process of the gasification of coal water slurry fuels were used in each analysis.
