In organology perspective, targeting at archaeological unearthed Shang Dynastyorchestral instruments, by means of interdisciplinary research methods including organology,musical archeology, archaeological typology, this thesis carries out a detailed statistical andcollation on the types and numbers of more than230archaeological pieces of Shang Dynastyorchestral instruments unearthed from Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan andother14provinces. It also makes a deep analysis and probe of their geographical distribution,cultural district, type and style, organology classif ication.On this basis, by means of comparison and analysis between the unearthed orchestralinstruments and the related records of Shang turtle oracle, Jin Dynasty writings, andhanded-down documents, this thesis studies the combinations and laws of Shang Dynastyorchestral instruments, and explores the characteristics reflecting Shang Dynasty musicallives and the instrumental performance art.Through the analysis of acoustic measurement dataof unearthed Shang Dynasty orchestral instruments, this thesis expounds the gloriousachievements of the Shang Dynasty music in the fields of theory and practice, and highlycommends the resulting impact on the future generations.
