Objective:Collate, integrate and analyse the role of Spleen-Stomach theory in the formation and development of "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs " and its clinical application in terms of prevention of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases;systematise it for further laying the foundation for the study of "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs" theory and its methodology;enrich the preventive medicine and provide methods and approaches for the treatment of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases. Methods:Theoretical study:study the conception and connotation of "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs";study the historical continuity between Spleen-Stomach theory and "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs" by classic literature review;elaborate the relationship between Spleen-Stomach Theory and "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs";establish the principles and methods of "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs" based on Spleen-Stomach Theory.Clinical study:Exploring the characteristics of the clinical application of Spleen-Stomach theory through summarising and analysing clinical cases for prevention and treatment of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases.Result:Theoretical study:The "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs" theory includes four fundamental principles:preventing disease occurrence, treating disease in the early stage, and avoiding disease progression and preventing disease recurrence.Because the Spleen and Stomach are the foundation of the acquired constitution and the source for the production and transformation of qi and blood, the impairment of the Spleen and Stomach can give rise to various kinds of diseases. The Spleen-Stomach theory played an essential role in the development of "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs".In the context of the SpleenStomach theory,"Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs" includes two aspects:health preservation to prevent disease recurrence and treatment to prevent disease progression. It can be achieved by utilising dietetic therapy, exercises, acupuncture, moxibustion, tuina, and Chinese herbs to regulate the Spleen and Stomach and reinforce vital qi.Clinical study:applying the Spleen-Stomach theory to "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs" has effectively improved the symptoms of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases. For example, according to the criteria for determining the efficacy of TCM syndrome treatment, the symptom score of irregular menstruation decreased by more than 95%,which indicates it is controllable. The symptom scores of low spirit, fatigue, palpitation, insomnia, dreaminess, dizziness, gastric distention, edema, abnormal bowel movement, polydipsia, polyphagia and polyuria decreased, ranging from 70%to 95%,which indicates it is significantly effective. The symptom score of conditions with movement limitation also decreased, ranging from 30%to 70%,which suggests it is effective. After the treatment,48.9%of the 276 patients with obesity lost weight of more than 10 kg;21.7%lost weight from 5 to 10 kg;12.7%lost weight from 3 to 5 kg;10.1%lost weight less than 3 kg;and 2.2%didn’t lose any weight. Conclusion:Both the theoretical study and clinical case reviews indicate that the SpleenStomach theory plays an essential role in the concept of "Prevention of Disease Before it Occurs".It provides important guidelines for treating and preventing Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases.
