Study On Qiu Shuyuan And His Commitment In Spreading And Promoting Chinese Culture In Singapore And The Whole Southeast Asia

Qiu Shuyuan(1874-1941)is a traditional Chinese literati who went out in modern times.He is familiar with the creation of Chinese classical literature.He takes the pioneering of innovation and the elimination of the common customs,and spreads Chinese traditional culture in Southeast Asia.At the same time,Qiu Shuyuan’s classical literary creation incorporates his life experience overseas.His classical literary creation has the characteristics of the early sensation of Southeast Asia’s local consciousness.He is one of the more representative figures of Chinese traditional literati living and creating abroad.However,because Qiu Shuyuan has lived overseas for a long time,he has not attracted much attention from the academic circles.Most researchers focus on the relationship between Qiu Shuyuan and the royalists,or focus on Qiu Shuyuan’s achievements in novels.In this paper,Qiu Shuyuan’s literary achievements are the main research objects,and are studied from four aspects,including introduction,text,conclusions and appendices.His life and his written editions were sorted out and verified,and Qiu Shuyuan’s influence on the rise of modern Chinese literature in Southeast Asia was discussed.That is,Qiu Shuyuan transferred the Chinese cultural and educational process of Malaya from the official leadership of Zuo Binglong and Huang Zunxian to the civil spontaneous organization;and via the influence of the literary society and newspapers,Qiu Shuyuan radiated the fire of the stars of Malaya Chinese literature to various parts of Southeast Asia.Qiu Shuyuan’s poetry has various themes,including political poetry,erotic poetry,epic poems,landscape poems,and Zen poems.In terms of artistic origin and style,Qiu Shuyuan studied from Bai Juyi,Yang Wanli and Li Shangyin in his early years,and his poetry style is fresh and frank,easy and full of affection;in the later period,Qiu Shuyuan learned from Du Fu,and his poetry became more Zen.Being good at integrating new words from Malay,English and the era into poetry is the experience of Qiu Shuyuan who appreciates the "new changes" of Du Fu.Indulging in Zen Pleasure makes Qiu Shuyuan’s poetry style clear in his later years;but Qiu Shuyuan has also created some impassioned anti-war poems.Qiu Shuyuan’s literary criticism involves poetry,novels,ancient writings,operas,words,etc.;and in this paper,poetry and novels are mainly concerned.Firstly,Qiu Shuyuan’s poetry focuses on temperament;he focuses on the true,steady and honest nature of temperament.Secondly,the Qingqu theory runs through the Qiuyuanyuan poetry.Thirdly,poetics of natural disposition is the main source of Qiu Shuyuan’s poetictheory and even the concept of opera.In addition,Qiu Shuyuan’s poetry systematically constructs the poetic lineage,with Li Shangyin,Du Fu,Bai Juyi,Su Shi and Yuan Zhen as learning objects.Qiu Shuyuan’s novels focus on social functions and aesthetic values,and he has a more advanced view of the innovation of old novels.On this basis,this paper attempts to explore the historical value of Qiu Shuyuan in the field of modern Chinese literature creation in Southeast Asia;meanwhile,this paper takes Qiuyuanyuan as the starting point to explore the problem of spatial construction under the field of modern Chinese literature research.
