The 20 th century is an era full of changes.The cultural theme of the times has had a profound impact on the development of Chinese painting.The voice of Chinese painting for change runs through the whole century.In the fierce intersection and collision between Chinese and Western painting in the 20 th century,the dispute over the reform of Chinese painting has always been the focus of Chinese art criticism in the 20 th century.This paper mainly expounds the three phased debates on the reform of Chinese painting across the country,including the background,causes,characters,events,phenomena and the correlation between them and society,politics,economy,culture and policy.Through combing the three debates on the reform of Chinese painting in the 20 th century,this paper forms a clear clue and puts forward a new research perspective.The transition and transformation of the key words from "revolution" in the first debate to "transformation" in the second debate to "rescue" in the third debate highlights that the shift of the focus of each debate is accompanied by the change of the domestic political,economic,cultural,policy and other environment.This paper analyzes the background,reason and influence of each debate,clarifies the evolution of Chinese art criticism thought and critical concept,and explores the collision and intersection of Chinese and Western art thought and the track of the modern evolution of Chinese painting through the analysis,induction and comment from the aspects of topic,origin,noumenon,evolution and results.After the ideological baptism of the May 4th New Culture Movement,there were two different path choices for the reform of Chinese painting: the "decline and improvement theory" and the "progressive value theory".The basic views and remarks of its representative figures constructed the basic development direction of early Chinese art criticism.Firstly,through the in-depth analysis and comparison of the representatives and their main viewpoints of the two camps of "fusionism" and "Traditionalism" formed by the debate.Secondly,through the research on the background,content,events and views in the process of the three debates,make a comparative evaluation,and then reflect on the gains and losses in the process of Chinese painting reform,the criticism standards and mechanism of Chinese painting.
