Peter Doig,a famous influential painter in the contemporary western art world,who made great achievements in oil painting,print-making,watercolor and many other kinds of paintings,is one of the noteworthy contemporary artists at present.The purpose of the study is to analyze on the changes since the western industrial revolution.The scientific and technological progress has brought great changes to people’s social life,the modern values and world outlook have also been changed.Especially after the adventure of camera,the western visual mode of painting has been changed,and the traditional artistic painting creation mode is also disintegrated and changed.In the 20 th century,artists "see" the world in different ways and use different methods on images.The painting schools began to be diversification and showed the "reality" by different ways,and easel painting produced crisis,experienced the process of decline,confusion and regeneration.The the study tried to do the analysis and study on Peter Doig’s creation methods,including how to grasp the fusion of real life or natural landscape together with personal feelings,in order to convey the unique "sense of lonely existence".Doig’s creation elements were selected from the relevant films,photos,posters and other images,and then overlapped.While in his composition of creation,Doig used the modification of color and metaphor unique meaning,to convey the solidified time and scenery behind the picture,so that the "image memory",which is a kind of unconsciousness retained in painting,showed complex emotional artistry and achieves a unique visual style of painting creation by showing the relationship between personal "memory" and image turning.It also showed us how Peter Doig absorbed in many inspirations to explore the personal mysterious and realistic art style,under the background of the prevailing of western avant-garde art and German new expressionism in the 20 th western world.The thesis also discusses the phenomenon background of Peter Doig’s creation methods,the relative achievement and research methods of the study.The thesis tries to discuss the necessary connection between the fragmented memory of an image and the dual structure of a painting,and the necessary connection also between image memory and the unconscious theory.The thesis also contains several chapters of analyzes,including the reproduction reason of the image memory and the artistic conception of them in Peter Doig’s works,his image processing process and personal emotion lyric process,and more systematic analysis on his painting characteristics.In the final chapter,the double structure factors and characteristics of Peter Doig’s artistic language are expounded.According to his creative ideas,the works are analyzed by types and time clues."Image fragmented memory,unconsciousness,metaphor,image and real space reconstruction,images and symbols,etc." were obtained by the own value of contemporary painting.The study of Peter Doig’s creation style also provides more thinking and reference space for the development and creation style of contemporary Chinese art.
