Steel is the most important and the most widely used of metal in modern industry.The rapid economic development in China results in a increase of steel demands. to find iron resource,metallogenic prognosis.is started in Jiazhuang regions in the west of Shandong province. The main objective is to predict skarn-type iron ore, the forecast aim is to delineate an ore target, and then determine the target location, area and forecast depth.The main research contents are the geological and geophysical features,the characteristics of typical deposits, the model for Metallogenic Prognosis and the prospecting mark in regional and study area.The major methods are data collection and comprehensive research, database construction and data analysis, and field verification. The use of GIS softwares are Mapgis and Arcview.Study area is located to Jiazhuang town, Cangshan county, Shandong Province, is southeastern part of North China tectonic plates Luzhong Swell and Ni mount raised. The strata are mainly exposed the carbonate rocks, clastic rocks of Paleozoic and Neoproterozoic,metamorphic rock of Late Archean,and a large number of Quaternary. rift is growing, magma activity is strong. especially intermediate and basic complex bodys of Yan shanian are close with skarn iron ore.By studying,finally delineate the target of Jiazhuang skarn type iron ore. The target area lies in the north of Jiazhuang town, the width is 200 metres to 600 metres and the length is 1.8 kilometres ,and area is 0.6km2. The favorable metallogenic depth is 431 to 600metres from the surface to the ground floor. Target locates in the binding sites of Yanshanian magmatic rocks, contact of Cambrian limestone and the north-east fault, forming favorable conditions.This study is the first application the GIS as high-tech in the iron ore clusters of the western of Shandong.This study showed that the ore prediction of using GIS technology is efficient and low cost.
